Someone send this on a card when my own Father died and it truly touched me. It follows:
"And when my journey takes me to the end of the road of life, beyond time's hidden bend, I hope my fellow travelers can say with truthful hearts - a good man passed this way."
Indeed Jerry Barton was a good man. To Pat, Lee, Hollis, Stuart, Bill and your families, it was my privilege to have known such a good man. He lived what he believed and I will always remember him with respect and admiration.

Dear Pat and family, I worked with Jerry as his secretary at Belknap Bluegrass Hardware just after his first secretary Gina was transfered to Florida. He was so easy to work for. The best sense of humor that everyone didn't realize they were working. We thought we were having fun and getting paid for it. He could be in a board of directors meeting and if one of his family called I was to interrupt his meeting. You were always first. God be with you.

I am so sad to hear of the loss of one of the finest men I have know. He was the President of Genuine Auto parts when we had the local retail store....We had so many happy times with Jerry and Pat. We were all in our prime then, and had so many fun parties together.
He was too young to have left us. My love to the whole family and an extra hug for Pat.

Dear Pat & Family,
What a large void there will be in our lives without Jerry around. His gentle spirit, good humor, willingness to help wherever needed and that smooth voice will be missed by us and everyone who knew him. You were such a lovely couple and such good friends to us. It is a sad time with lots of tears but remember "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted" (Psalms 34:18). There will be joy when we remember Jerry and tell stories about him. He was an amazing man with an amazing family.

To the whole Barton clan--
Please accept condolences of behalf of me and Bonnie and Philip Jr. I have always been proud to have called Jerry a friend and a patriot who loved his country. We enjoyed a lot of lively banter together, as well as serious public policy discussions. He was a visionary and I'm glad to have been associated with him and other Barton family members as they launched the American Seniors Association, which has helped so many people-- and our country-- in recent years. May Jerry rest in the sleep of peace.-- Phil Kent, Atlanta, Ga.
