Jesus Frutos Obituary

"The Chain" has been broken as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, Jesus N. Frutos, to many known as "Papa Chuy," went to join his Creator peacefully on Wednesday evening, March 23, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.

Jesus was born on Dec. 11, 1925 in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, and was a lifelong resident of Ventura County making Santa Paula his home for 65 years. During his time on earth, he worked with various construction companies throughout Southern California, his goal was to own his own business. In 1968 he fulfilled his dream by becoming the owner of Asphalt Laying Service where he lived by his motto: "Quality Work Makes Friends"!

Some of our most memorable times were spent at his ranch with family and friends; carnitas every weekend! He loved to make friends, entertaining them with his wonderful stories at local coffee shops. Papa Chuy truly enjoyed life! He was an avid dancer, loved music especially corridos, baladas and boleros and with the strum of his guitar, he could entertain you for hours. A big sports fan, especially boxing, he could name you boxers and their stats of many eras.

In his younger years, pool halls throughout Ventura County recognized "Chuy" as an excellent pool player. His sidekick was brother-in-law Leo Valdivia; they are now once again "racking them up!" Let's not forget that Papa Chuy also liked to play his favorite card game "Five Card Stud" or better known as "Garaona" to his sons, grandkids and friends.

Papa Chuy was preceded in death by his parents, Salome and Tomasita Frutos, and baby sister, Nicolasa Frutos. Because he was orphaned at the age of nine, his Madrina Agustina Frutos who cared for the family, also preceded him in death in 1971. Jesus is survived by his wife of 62 years, Consuelo V. Frutos. and 10 children: Rey (Carmen) of Santa Paula, Anna Maria (Bob) Sanchez of Santa Clarita, Ruben (Rosemary) of Santa Paula, Frank (Eileen) of Ventura, Jaime of Santa Paula, Martha (Carl) Dugas of Moorpark, Rosa Maria (Damien) Stehly of Fillmore, Miguel (Dara) of Santa Paula, Rafael (Lupe) of Ventura and Gabriel of Santa Paula. He also leaves behind siblings, Celestino (Catalina) Frutos of Tijuana, Amelia Frutos of San Jose and Ruben (Ana Maria) of Tijuana. Papa Chuy was very proud of his 29 grandchildren, his 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He also leaves behind numerous in-laws, nephews and nieces from the Valdivia and Frutos families that he was very fond of.

Papa Chuy's family would like to extend their gratitude and thanks to Dr. Constantine, Dr. Shrock and all the medical staff both at Santa Paula Hospital and Vista Cove Care Center for their warm and professional care. Hasta que "La Cadena" sea reconectada, DESCANZA EN PAZ, Papa Chuy Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, and a Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at Skillin-Carroll Memorial Chapel, 738 E. Santa Paula St., Santa Paula. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 1, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 427 N. Oak St., Santa Paula. Arrangements under the direction of Funeraria del angel Stetler Mortuary, 128 South 8th St., Santa Paula, 525-5595.

To all the Frutos family my deepest sympathy in the loss of your father. When you lose a parent it's like losing a piece of your heart, because a parent is someone who holds your hand when your in trouble when you need a shoulder to cry on, when you need to laugh, when you miss there love when you remember when they made something you liked to eat like my daddys arroz con leche. There love is unconditional. The good LORD and Angels were waiting with open hands to receive PAPA CHUY into his kingdom, GOD BLESS YOU ALL. Stay United Love Ortencia (tencha) Vildosola

Our condolences to all the Frutos family. We tried to find our family on the Frutos side for years and just did a few weeks ago. We were looking so forward to meeting Jessie as we found Frank and Angie. How bittersweet to be meeting all the family at the funeral. We certainly wish we were a few months or years earlier. He sounds like so much fun.
Our sincere sympathy
