Not sure what to say?

Dear Sandy, Mike, Kathy and Rick, I just heard of the passing of Jim . I am so sorry for your loss. So many memories flooded in from my time at Copelands Sports-first in advertising and later as a manager. I have many work memories of Jim, but my fondest were on a more personal note. In advertising when I stabbed myself with an exacto knife and he sent me to urgent care on told me to have them "put it on my tab". Later, also in the advertising dept. when i was 19, he found out my wisdom...

Sandy, So sorry for your loss. We just heard and I hope you are all doing okay. Love to you and your family.

Growing up in San Luis Obispo Copelands Fine Shoes was a big part of downtown. I remember buying my first pair of Adidas shoes from Thelma Copeland and I remember when Jim and Tom opened Copelands Sports around the corner on Monterey St in the early 1970´s and I bought my first bicycle from them. Jim and Tom did a lot of good things to our down town area especially with the development of the Downtown Center which was a big hole in the ground in the late 1980´s and turned it into a downtown...

Condolences to the Copeland family. From buying Buster Brown shoes from Thelma as a kid, to the Sports stores, to the rebuilding of downtown SLO, I find it astonishing how much Jim, and Tom, enriched this community. Jim´s involvement on various boards, support for sports programs and corporate leadership reflect that which is seldom seen. His legacy is well cemented.

Sandy, Our prayers are with you and your family. He and you have been outstanding contributors to our community.

Jim was a wonderful mentor, leader and friend. He gave of his time and talents generously, made us better, and always remained optimistic amidst the challenges of innovating and commercializing new technology. We are grateful to his entire family for sharing him with us and supporting us. We hold Jim and the entire family in our hearts. The Applied Silver Team

My condolences to the family. As a young man, I was fortunate to work for Copelands and to meet Jim, Sandy, Mike, Kathy, Ricky, and of course Thelma. Jim and the family have obviously made a tremendous impact in the world and the world and SLO are a better place because of this. Thank you Jim for being a blessing to so many. You will be remembered and cherished.

I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Copeland when I was 5 years old. He was one of many outstanding male role models I have been lucky enough to have in my life. I would not be the man I am today without his influence while I was growing up. Mr. Copeland was a funny, warm, generous, brilliant and extremely competitive man. He was a great role model for being an involved, loving Father to his kids , beloved son to his Mom and devoted Husband to his wife...... My day was always better when our...

Jim left quiet, generous and loving footprints in his path, and was always surrounded by so many who loved him. This world is a better place because of Jim and Sandy
