Chevy Chase, MD
Joan P. Lipnick Abelson, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2010, of Chevy Chase, MD, and formerly of Utica, NY. She was the beloved wife of Rabbi Kassel Abelson and of the late Rabbi Jerome Lipnick, formerly of Temple Beth El, Utica; devoted mother of Miriam (Forrest) Lipnick Foss, Robert (Barbara) Lipnick and Rabbi Jonathan (Susan Scheuer) Lipnick, Dr. David (Susan) Abelson, Elissa (Rabbi Rick) Sherwin and Dr. Sam (Sharon) Abelson; cherished grandmother of Gilad, Ilana, Yael, Ariella, Jacob, Benjamin, Max, Daniella, Abby, Noah, Danny(Alyssa), Dafna, Michael, Elana, Sari, Josh, Davi, Joel, Nomi, Shawn and Jesse; adoring great-grandmother of Zachary and Georgia. Her graveside services will be 11 AM, Wednesday in Temple Beth El Cemetery, Wood Road, Whitesboro, NY. Contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of choice. Rabbi Abelson, From the time that we moved to Minneapolis, 40 years ago, you and first Shirley, then Joan, were a part of our lives. You were always there for us. Please know that, while we might not be physically with you, we are spiritually so, sorrowing with you but still basking in the glow left behind by the fact that Joan was there and in your life.

Joan was such a gift to our entire family. We first met her at Lost Lake, a place very dear to all of us. She was always so present and intentional about relationships. Grandma Joan, as we called her, will be dearly missed. The genuineness she shared will stay with us always. Love to you all.

We are truly sorry to hear of Joan's passing. She was such a strong, warm and compassionate women that touched our lives from so many different sides. As a friend to both or our sets of parents, wife and mother to the Abelson's and a role model for us and our family. We only remember her second "tour" of Minneapolis, but have heard many stories and memories. Her bright smile and positive outlook will be missed by all, and we hope that these days ahead will be filled with wonderful stories of the Joan that meant so much to so many.
