"It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing our beloved mother, Joan Stanley Davis, of Galax, Virginia, who passed away on August 24, 2025, at the age of 82. She passed away peacefully at home.


Joan Annette Stanley was born in Galax, Virginia, on December 28, 1942, to Leon Hobart Stanley and Shirley Beatrice Stanley, whose maiden name was Montgomery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Richard William Davis II.


Joan was a graduate of Andrew Lewis High School, Salem, Virginia. She attended Roanoke College for two years.She married her husband, Richard William Davis, and together they built a life rooted in the Roanoke-Salem Community. Joan spent her career promoting events, starting with the Roanoke Valley Gun Show, the Roanoke Valley Gem and Mineral Show in Roanoke, Virginia with events that spread to multiple cities in Virginia and West Virginia, but was most known for her passions, which included collecting guns and shooting, collecting gems, minerals, and fossils, baking, gardening, painting, and playing the piano.She was a faithful member of Salem Baptist Church in Salem, Virginia.,.


She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Annette Elliott of Blacksburg, Virginia; Joanne and Virgil Dillon of Floyd, Virginia; Maria and Aris Kyriakides of Covington, Louisiana; grandchildren and spouse Chelsea Gelles; Michael Gelles V; Bonnie and Zachary Bowyer; Casey Dillon; Virgil Dillon and Mary Ann Cook; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and the father of her children Richard William Davis.


A Memorial Service will be held Friday, August 29, 2025 at 3:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. Dick Gilbert officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 2:00 PM until time for the service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
