JOAN KOVEN Obituary
JOAN F. KOVEN
Joan F. Koven, 74 of Silver Spring, MD, died Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Holy Cross Hospital. Joan was born November 9, 1937, the daughter of John and Viola Hughes. She was a consultant at MARPAT Foundation and the President and Founder of Astrolabe, Inc. Joan was a world traveler, an adventurer SCUBA diver and pilot. She was the beloved mother of daughters, Martine Kuhlman (James) and Michele Koven (Brian Fields); beloved grandmother of Maxfield Kuhlman and Ella Kuhlman; beloved sister of Jacqueline Van Essendelft. She was predeceased by a sister, Carol Conrad. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Joseph Gawler's Sons, 5130 Wisconsin Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20016.

On behalf of the entire Fair Chance family, we are deeply saddened to hear of Joan's passing. She was a wonderful person and a champion for our city's children and youth. We were so lucky to have worked with her for the past four years through the MARPAT Foundation's Ward 7 & 8 initiative. Thank you, Joan for all your support of Fair Chance.

I just learned of Joan's death and I am saddened by the news. Please accept my sincere condolences.
As you probably know, Joan and I were members of the same high school class (SHS Class of 1955) and I am sure the other members of the class would want me to let you to know that they also share your sorrow.
