Group of 10 Memorial Trees

My brother, Al Laya, added me to his Vietnam buddies. I attended several gatherings where Dave and Jonie attended. Bonnie and I send our sincere condolences.

Bob Laya

I met Joan through flower arranging; she was incredibly generous with her time, ideas, supplies, stories, and even her home. If she saw a need, she filled it. She made sure her many friends were exposed to all things she felt important. She was program chairman for the Jr. League Sustainers' garden club, She was on the Vestry at St. Martin's Church...leading many projects she saw would be beneficial. She wasn't afraid to ask questions to learn more. She filled her time working for others....

Joani was truly one of the Greatest Of All Time. After 40 years away, we were reunited and grateful for the fun times spent in Philadelphia, San Francisco and Yosemite. We will always keep you in our hearts.

Joani was the heart of our close knit group of helicopter pilots and VN vets. Since our separation of military service in '65, she kept the lines of communication open; our group has been in contact since seeing each other when possible at pilot reunions. We'll miss you, Joani but will never be forgotten.

A Class Act. Period.

Joan made everyone special.

Sympathies to you, David, and to your family.

I was fortunate to have taught Joani and Dave’s three wonderful daughters when I was part of The Baldwin School Art Department. Through the girls I came to know Joani and Dave. What a great couple! They were a team that was early forged on the anvil of the Vietnamese War. A terrific team that was powered by love and respect. A team that created those daughters, friends wherever they went, and excellent adventures through a long and truly full life.
And Joani? What a force to...

Joan will be missed by many, including The Larks.
