JoAnn Reeve Obituary

JoAnn Reeve
1942 ~ 2016
Murray, Utah-JoAnn Reeve, 74, passed away peacefully October 2, 2016, from heart failure and several related issues. JoAnn will be sorely missed by family, friends and her little dog, Spike.
JoAnn was born in Salt Lake City, the third child of Elder Rex C. and Phyllis Reeve. By following their examples, she led a wonderful life of service and devotion. JoAnn, a graduate of BYU, loved to learn and over the years continued her education. In 1979 she received her R.N. degree. Interrupting her teaching/coaching career in 1983, she served an LDS mission in the Bristol England Mission. She also took three semesters of Russian before traveling twice to Russia and the Holy Lands.
JoAnn was the Head Coach of the Ricks College Lady Vikings Volleyball Team for over 30 years. She also coached the Women's Basketball Team for 10 years. She never had a losing season, and in the process compiled a remarkable win/loss record of 909/283, for a 77% win ratio, making her the winningest coach in NJCAA history. Her team won the national title in 1974. She has coached eleven All-Americans. She was selected as the Regional Coach of the Year many times, and in 2001 she was selected as the AVCA/Tachikara/AVCA National Coach of the Year for Junior College/Community College Women's Volleyball. In 1998 she was inducted into the NJCAA Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. In 2005 she was named to the Utah Summer Games Hall of Honor. In 1991 she was awarded the Exemplary Faculty Award at Ricks College.
JoAnn has been active in the LDS church serving five times as Relief Society President, Primary President, Social Relations teacher, Gospel Doctrine teacher and Stake and Regional Camp Director. In 1998 JoAnn was honored by the Lambda Delta Sigma Sorority of Ricks College receiving the "Exemplary Womanhood Award."
JoAnn is survived by brothers, Rex (Barbara), Roger (Deanne), David Reeve; sisters, Becky Reeve, Venice (Garth) Finlinson, Barbara (Lane Nielson); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and three nephews, Scott Reeve, Gabe Krusi and Ethan Nielson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 8, 2016, at 2:00 PM in the Murray 23rd Ward (755 E Three Fountains Drive, Murray, Utah.) A viewing will be held at the ward prior to the funeral from 12:00-1:45 PM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the LDS Church missionary or humanitarian fund. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

So sorry to hear of JoAnn's passing. She was always busy doing things for everyone and was concerned about her family. I worked with her at Ricks College and BYU-Idaho. When I think of JoAnn I think of volleyball and how she loved to coach her teams. She will be missed and we send our love and sympathy for your loss. God bless you in this time of grieving. How proud she was of her heritage and family. Love, John and Sherrie Bonner

I was blessed to have met "Coach" 21 years ago as a student at Ricks College. I was a basketball kid from Indiana, but Coach quickly convinced me to give volleyball a try. It didn't take long once she convinced me to fall in love with the game. It was easy to do seeing the passion she had for the game, for life and for all those around her. I have since made volleyball my career and have followed in her footsteps as a coach with my number one goal to be as hers was...to be an influence for good to so many amazing young people, teaching them life lessons and success traits through the avenue of sport. I am now coaching at one of her former rivals (SLCC) and each season I wish that Coach was still coaching and Ricks still had a program as I would have loved the opportunity to play against her teams. I literally owe my career to Coach and will greatly miss her. I love you coach...thanks for everything you have blessed my life with!

If the funreal were held in Rexburg, it would take the Hart Auditorium to fit in all that loved her. She had the uncanny ability to make everyone think they were her best friend. We all loved her here at Ricks College/ BYU-I

In the days, on missions when we use to carry projectors and flip charts. JoAnn came to work with us and insisted on carrying my bag, my companions bag and her own. I loved her visits. Sorry for your loss.

I will miss JoAnn, I loved her laugh and sense of humor. Her cheerful outlook on life was contagious, which made her a lot of fun to be around. I'm grateful for all she taught me and for the example she was to me. I am so thankful that we were friends.
