I played jam sessions with Joe in Berkeley and Oakland in the late 1950s at places like George's Northgate, LaVal's Cantina and in diverse living rooms, where we ran into legendary figures such as Pharaoh Sanders, Clair Fisher, Larry Bryggman, Ken Plourde and others.
