I am so sorry to hear that Joe's smiling face is no longer with us. In the short couple of years that I worked with Joe, his enthusiasm was contagious, he was always cheerful and fun to work with. He was so proud of his boys and the Texas Thunder organization, and I hope that they continue his legacy. Sterling and Spencer, your Dad will always be with you.
Joe, rest in peace, friend.

"Joseph" and I were Friends during my years while an employee at Abbott Labs.
I liked and respected Joe.
He was simply a geniune, honest, good guy.
He treated people with dignity, respect and kindness regardless of who they were or what job title they had.
Joe was truely a value to his community, work place, friends and family.
A "hole" was created by his untimely passing but his memory as a good-person, a good-man,
good-employee, a good-citizen,
good-friend, good-father and good husband will last forever.
May God Bless his loved-ones and family.
May they-all live safe, secure, happy and long.

Joe was a tremendous friend and is missed sorely. I first met Joe in the Commons at Southwestern University. He was so kind to allow me to go before him in line one day while at lunch. No reason, he was just a good person. I became friends with Joe and ate lunch with him just about every day while we were at S.U. If he wasn't with Lynette, he was at my table eating with Rayond Joiner, Adrian, Rudy Williams, Rodney, Heenan, Josh and others. We would cut up and have the greatest time. Joe was always keeping us real. He was a tremendous friend and always the king of Backgammon. I could never beat him at his game. My thoughts and prayers go out to all his family and friends. Thank you Joe, for being such a kind spirit and a good soul in this crazy world. You will always be a part of my life. ...Robert "Gino" Montalbo ...

I was stunned and saddened to hear of Joe's passing. 32 years ago, we showed up at the campus of Southwestern University as basketball players and learned we were assigned as roomates. We had never met, never talked, but developed a special friendship that I will always treasure and never forget. Joe was a success story, he took advantage of the education at SU and met the love of his life, Lynette. Lynette and my future wife were roomates as well. It was a special time in my life and I am blessed for having known Joe and Lynette. I pray for peace for Lynette and the boys, and am thankful for my friend Joe Phillips. - Russ Briggs

To Mrs. Phillips and Joe's Sons and Family:

I was shocked and greatly saddened to read of Joe's passing in today's newspaper.

Having worked along side Joe at Abbott Labs for 7 years, I came to know him as a manager who, although ever aware of the production goals for a quality product, always respected the people he supervised, and who, in return, was respected and admired by those who worked for him.

Having worked on several projects with Joe -- the Annual Family Day Celebration, and various Production Problem-Solving Committees, for example -- I found Joe to be an enthusiastic participant who inspired others, with his cheerful hard work and his problem-solving ability, inspired them to contribute their best to the projects' goals.

I am sure that Joe knew he had a positive influence, especially on the young people he coached, but he probably never knew just how many persons, be they co-workers or acquaintances, who looked up to him and admired the way Joe lived his life: always cheerful, always thoughtful, always ready to lend a helping hand. Simply said, Joe was a good man. He will be missed.

Please accept my deepest condolences.

My family was fortunate to have known Joe and his family for the past three years and we share nothing but fond memories.

Joe touched each of us in so many special ways. He gave my son an opportunity that would have never been given to him by any other person, and today my son is a better person in so many ways because of Joe. For me, it was knowing that Joe was going through his battle with cancer and every day he was there with his smile giving me the vision to see there’s a silver lining in everything, even during the times when you think you’re feeling your lowest. He was such a caring person and always wanted what was best for everyone he touched in life.
Today is not a time for sorrow; rather it’s a time to rejoice in all the great things that Joe represented to this world, especially all the great smiles and memories we will all cherish.

To Lynette, Sterling and Spencer. The Lord took Joe from you early for a reason, and while sometimes we question why and how the Lord makes his decisions, just know this fact: You were extremely fortunate to have a loving father and husband like Joe. He only wanted what was best for all of you, and even though his physical being on this earth is no longer, his spirit will always be with all of us and you will be reunited again.
Next time when I need that extra boost of “I can do it” attitude I’m going to do is look into the sky, think about Joe and smile. My memories of him will give me what I need to get over the obstacles that are standing in my way.

Our sincerest condolences to the Phillips family.

Heaven now has a new CEO of basketball, and his name is Joe Phillips!

To the Phillips Family,
I am saddened by the loss of your loved one, but I also rejoice when a loved one has gone home to glory. Let this be a celebration that another soldier has received his coat of many colors. Let the Joy of the Lord be your strength. Lynette, I have not seen you or Joe in years, probably since the early 90's when we had a party at our home in Round Rock. Just to remind you of who I am...I was formerly married to Rufus Williams (Audrey Williams). Joe was the only person that called me by my nickname which brought back great memories from home since I did not have any family here in Texas and that is the name they use. My prayers are with you and the family. God Bless You all and may you find your rest and peace in Him.

I will always be here for you. And sweet love to faithful Fay. James and I will always treasure all the fun times we had...from Highland Park days to Virginia Beach, Texas Thunder road trips, and how could we forget Las Vegas!! Such wonderful memories. Love from Mary, James, Michael, and the McGuires, Christy, Scott, Emily, McKenzie and Nicholas. One more thing...could there be a better husband, father and friend than Joe Phillips. Dearest Lynette, Sterling and Spencer, and all the Phillips family, we are deeply saddened upon hearing about your beloved Joe. We know your hearts are heavy with grief, but know that God in all his infinite wisdom has blessed your lives with such a wonderful man. He had to be one of the friendliest person anyone could meet. All adults and kids loved him. He knew no stranger. How wonderful it must have been to have such a wonderful husband, Father, brother, uncle, to share all these years with. My family will stay prayerful that your grief will ease, as the days grow into all the wonderful memories Joe has bestowed upon you. Lynette, I want to let you all know..if you don't know it.... everyone that knows your family loves all of you. Joe's wonderful smile will live on every time we see you. God Bless you and keep you strong. Love you Shirley Terry and son Dorian Parks.

Phillips Family,
It has been 10 years since I worked with Joe but I remember him as an all around great guy. Our ski trips were more fun with Joe and the many years at work. He had a good ear as an HR Rep. for complaining supervisors, and was helpful in resolving problems.

Gods strength to the family during this painful time.
