I am Robert Schamber, Joel´s oldest friend. Joel was born one day after me in 1950. This means I had seniority over Joel. I was to use this card many times during our lives together. I´ve known him since January 11th, 1957 when I moved from NYC to Bloomfield, NJ. We met on my first day at Brookdale School in the first grade. We immediately became good friends. Joel and I were buddies way back when. One night we took dates out sailing at LB Island, the weather got nasty and we ended up having to swim the boat back to shore. We reached shore in the morning and had some explaining to do. Joel gave me my first car. Memories of going to NY to meet Gene who would take us out to fancy restaurants. He was a culinary writer and we always received VIP treatment.

I lived around the block from Joel during our time at Bloomfield High in NJ. We would get to school in a small red car he had that had a steering wheel that was taped up. We were in the same home room and ... since I was a sort of goody 2 shoes....whenever we came in late I would provide an excuse and....of course it was accepted. Much fun and memories made at his parents' beach house on Long Beach Island. Joel.....you never took me sailing!!!!!!
