John Barnes Obituary
John went to school in Lucama NC where he created lasting friendships and was still in touch with members of his graduating class of 1963. After graduation, John enlisted in the Navy where he served 26 years until his retirement as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in 1989.
John was a 50 year member of the Masons and focused on the Shriner's children's hospital and Duke Children's Hospital. In his spare time, John enjoyed golfing, fishing and attending the sporting events of his kids and grandkids.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Linda; daughters: Angela and Trudy; son-in-law: Chris and grandchildren: Ryan (Buddy), Brayden (Bubba) and Gabby (Doodle) and his little dog Candy.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 12 Noon until 1:30 pm at Apex Funeral Home. Remembrances will be shared beginning at 1:30 pm in the funeral home chapel, followed by Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are preferred to Duke Children's Hospital. Condolences to the family at ApexFuneral.com

John will never be forgotten. He was 100% dedicated to his family as well as his former High School classmates. I am going to miss seeing him at the class reunions and talking with him over the phone. Gone but not forgotten.

We became friends in Misawa Japan, in 1980. The friendship continued for the last 44 years. John Barnes was a friend that was more than a friend, he , Linda and the girls were and will always be family. John will be missed.
