Dossie B. Barnes

Mrs. Dossie B. Barnes passed away Friday, January 9, 2026, at Avista Nursing and Rehab Center. Age 98 years. Dossie was born on November 20, 1927, in Elaine, Arkansas, to Abram and Mary Otis.

Dossie B. married the love of her life, Johnnie Frank Barnes, in 1945, and from this union, there were four children. She left Arkansas as a sharecropper and became a homemaker in Saginaw, Michigan. In 2002, she became a member of Truevine Baptist Church.

Dossie B. loved to shop and wear her hats. She enjoyed cooking, going to the movies, and gardening. She also loved her children and especially her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.

Dossie B. leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, T’Ella (Earl) Shannon, and Johnnie Mae (Tommy) Johnson; one son Leroy (Earnestine) Barnes; grandchildren, Kalvin Spears whom she raised, Earl (Temieka) Shannon, and Jacklun Shannon, Leroy Barnes, Jr., Justin (Aerial) Barnes, Sharon (Daniel) Effinger, Everett, and T’Ella Johnson, Lamont Jones, and Lashawn (James) Vaughn; daughter-in-law, Renee Barnes; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many other relatives and friends.

Dossie B. was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Frank Barnes; son, Johnnie Frank Barnes, Jr.; granddaughter, Michelle Barnes; grandson, Tommy Johnson, Jr.; and parents Abram and Mary Otis.
