John Beaman Obituary

John Edward Beaman, Jr.
November 5, 1929 - December 10, 2021
Raleigh, North Carolina - John was born at Mary Elizabeth Hospital, Raleigh, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Francis Bowen Beaman and three sisters; Francis Rawlinson Beaman, Jane Elizabeth Beaman Aycock and Johnny Jenkins Beaman Harris. He was also preceded by his wife of fifty-seven years, Virginia (Boots) Elizabeth Hudson Beaman, and their oldest son, John Edward lll and wife, Cheryl.
He is survived by his sons William Stuart Beaman and wife, (Leslie) and Michael Hudson Beaman. He is also survived by five beloved grandchildren; Brook Nicole Beaman, Andrew Grier Beaman, Kylie Stewart Beaman, Kenna Hudson Beaman and Kathryn Quinn Beaman.
Survived by brother-in-law, John Fleming Harris; niece Francis Harris Wilder (Ryan); nephews John Harris and Jimmy Harris; nieces Jane Aycock Murphy (Sam), Elizabeth Aycock Holden (Michael); nephew William John Hudson lll (Lucilla); niece Nancy Hudson Cox (Doug) and many cousins.
John and Boots loved traveling and visited most all our states and many foreign countries. John also loved woodworking, boating, fishing and flower gardening. He particularly enjoyed growing dinner plate sized dahlias for the North Carolina State Fair competition.
John served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the USS Glennon (Destroyer) during the Korean War. John was a dedicated employee of Hudson Belk Co. for over thirty years. He served the organization as a Lead Buyer, Vice President and Merchandise Controller. Retiring in 1995, John continued his humble servitude by volunteering as usher, pall bearer as well as other roles when needed at White Memorial Presbyterian Church where he was a valued charter member. He loved attending Tuesday morning men's group and was active in the Kennagers study group.
John and Boots shared a passion for community service, ultimately leading him to volunteer his time and considerable talents to Habitat for Humanity of Wake County. When not on the building sites, John could be found working with the 10,000 Villages store in Cameron Village.
His love for these volunteer positions did not distract from his commitment and love for his family, which remained his primary focus. John will be remembered for his strength, grace, honesty and humble devotion to others and above all, as a true southern gentleman.
A visitation for John will be held Thursday, December 16, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary's Street, Raleigh, NC. A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will occur Friday, December 17, 2021 at 11:00 AM at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Rd, Raleigh, NC 27608.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity of Wake County, 2420 N Raleigh Blvd, Raleigh, NC 27604 or to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Cir., Raleigh, NC 27607.

My mother Martha McCauley Sikes Adams was Boots´ cousin. The Beaman Family invited me to stay with them for a couple weeks while I was in the process of moving to Durham in 1981. What a gracious and wonderful family. God bless all of you.

My condolences go out to Stuart and Mike and to all the grandchildren. John was a dear friend and one I was fortunate enough to spend many hours fishing with-I will miss him very much.
