JOHNSONBURG - John J. "Juke" Calla, 86, of 253 West Center St., Johnsonburg, died Friday morning (Aug. 3, 2018) at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born April 30, 1932, in Johnsonburg, a son of John and Theresa Manno Calla. On Nov. 9, 1957, in St. Boniface Church, Kersey, he married Pauline J. Holtzhauser, who survives.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean era as a corporal with the HQ Co SP TRPS USARAL Alaska.
Surviving in addition to his wife at home are four children, Michael (Mary Beth) Calla of Sharon, John C. (Robin) Calla of Ridgway, Regina (Dave) Myers of Johnsonburg and Peter (Kelly) Calla of Sharon; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Stella Maddalena of Ridgway and Delores (Jack) Carroll of Andover, Mass.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Calla; a grandson, David Calla; brothers Fred, Bruno, Louis and Frank Calla; sisters, Fannie Calla, Jennie Calla, Ruthie Cherry, Madge Casciani, Rose Wolfe and Angeline Sidoni.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:45 a.m. Monday at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, with the Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg Servicemen's Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Monday.
