O'Neill Funeral Home - Cumberland Obituary

John J. Conroy Jr., 84, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 4, 2025 surrounded by his family and devoted friend Eddie. He was the beloved husband of the late Muriel (Tondreault) Conroy.

Born in Pawtucket, John formed lifelong friendships with Eddie Breault and Bob Powers. The trio shared a special bond from a young age, spending their early years together in lighthearted, and at times mischievous, adventures that remained cherished memories throughout their lives. He was a proud graduate of Saint Raphael Academy and Providence College. In 1968, John and Muriel began a new chapter when they moved to Cumberland, where they would raise their family and build a life among neighbors and friends who became like family. He deeply cherished time spent with his two sisters, Bea and Mae. Also known by many as "Joe" he was an avid follower of PC Friars basketball and had a lifelong appreciation for classic and luxury automobiles. With Muriel, he enjoyed frequently and routinely visiting local restaurants in Cumberland and Narragansett, which led to being warmly welcomed and forming many close friendships.

John was the president and owner of Medical Knitted Structures in Pawtucket for many years, where he took great pride in his work and found deep purpose in providing for his family. His lifelong commitment and passion for the textile industry led to being a well respected member of that community. In addition he was active in the Southern New England Textile Association, a former board member of Slater Mill and a longtime member and past president of the Cumberland Kiwanis Club.

He is survived by his loving children, Patricia Walsh and her husband Timothy, John Conroy III and his wife Sheila, and Kristen Lagasse and her husband Jeffrey; his cherished sisters, Beatrice Sylvestre and Mary Yeghian; and his beloved grandchildren, Marissa Tomasetti and her husband Stephen, Jared Walsh, Meredith Walsh and her fiancé Jack Camus, Ashley Conroy, Caitlin Conroy, Cole Lagasse, Ryan Lagasse, and Tyler Lagasse. He also leaves behind two adored great-grandchildren, Shae and Hallie Tomasetti as well as many treasured nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Visiting Hours on Friday, July 11, 2025 from 9:00 - 11:00 AM followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM on at O’Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Not sure what to say?

John, Kristen, and Patty....I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. He and your Mom were special people. Your Mom helped me through my infertility journey and loved my boys as if they were her own grandchildren!! They were also there for me during my divorce...when they didn't have to be. I appreciated that so much and loved them like my own in-laws. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family always.

Peace forever

Our deepest sympathies to you upon the loss of such a kind and gentle father, grandfather, brother, friend, and neighbor. Joe is in the arms of Muriel once again, and oh, how happy he is!

The Corriveau Family from Rolling Acres

John, Kristen and Pat, I was very sorry to see that your dad had passed. My deepest sympathy to you all. I hope fond memories make his passing a little easier to bear.

I knew John for many years and had the hightest regard for him. He was always willing to lend a hand or provide support. He will be sadly missed.

Patti, John, Kristen and Family
Our deepest sympathy on the loss of your dad. He was a really nice man, very quiet and reserved. Always watching your mom taking her thousands of pictures wherever she was. I'm sure she is waiting at the pearly gates with her camera ready to take his picture !. May God hold him in the palm of his hand. Rest in peace Joe.

He was a part of the best times of Cumberland. Making it the greatest place to grow up.

Thank you John for giving me the opportunity of working for you..My condolences go out to the whole family..RIP Boss!!

Gerry and I will always cherish our times with John & Muriel. We always enjoyed our get together whether at their beach house, Italian restaurants or the Coastguard House in Narragansett. He will be missed.
