My deepest condolences. I met John around 23 years ago. We became fast friends when he came to my barbershop for a haircut. He was a good talker! We spent many hours together over coffee. Or, we spent hours walking the Isabella Gardner museum. I miss him. He is a true gentle man. Terri Balas

In typical fashion, Mayor Menino at the right time, found the right person for the job. John's strength of character, humility, and leadership are qualities that we all should admire. He will be sorely missed.

John was a joy for me during the times we shared at the Library's Mystery Book Club. His sense of mischievous humor and soft laugh always brought on a smile, and added pleasure to the meetings. His presence in town will be sorely missed by many people.

I will miss you, my friend. The good times we had in high school and goofy things we kids in the neighborhood did will always be a fond memory for me. Rest In Peace valiant warrior!

John was the most honorable person I ever met in City government. He was a very humble man who helped a great deal of people, including me. It was my privilege to to know him and work for him. Rest in Peace John.
