John ELLIOTT Obituary

ELLIOTT, John Carleton Passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas, on January 21, 2017, at the age of 56. The cause was complications from lung cancer. John is survived by his son, Ryan Patrick Elliott, of Houston, Texas; his siblings Elizabeth Anne Elliott of Middletown, Ohio, and Claudia Jean Elliott (Julio Ortega), of Providence, Rhode Island; nephew Sean Elliott Oliver, of Washington, DC; and nieces Kara Elliott-Ortega of Boston, Massachusetts, and Alexandra Seif (Jacob) of Dallas, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, the Honorable George H. Elliott and Betty (Ford) Elliott, both of Middletown, Ohio. John was born on November 8, 1960 in Middletown, Ohio. A graduate of Middletown High School, he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, in 1983. Mr. Elliott was an employee of CB&I, Inc., and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) who specialized in remediation technologies and had over 35 years of management and remediation experience. He provided engineering design and project management of hazardous waste treatment and compliance programs. His experience included project and construction management, hazardous waste management, management of military munitions investigation and remediation projects involving Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC) and Chemical Warfare Materiel (CWM). Throughout his career, John dedicated himself to serving the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in the field of Superfund Cleanup site management. A licensed private pilot, John was a vivacious individual who loved music and who was passionate about mastering the works of favorite classic rock and blues musicians on his many guitars and the mandolin. John was an enthusiastic fan of college and pro football and was a season ticket holder for the Houston Texans from the day of their inception. He regularly followed sports teams from his alma mater, Miami University, especially the football and hockey teams. He was a master at outdoor grilling and enjoyed entertaining friends. He loved fishing, both for freshwater bass and saltwater speckled trout and redfish. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) or the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF). Condolences can be sent to www.dignitymemorial.com. The family would like to thank Baylor Medical Center, St. Luke's Hospital, Kindred Hospital, and Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home in Houston, Texas, for their dedication and care.
