John Erickson Obituary

John David Erickson, of Collierville, Tennessee, passed away unexpectedly on December 28, 2020. John is survived by his wife, Linda Laurenzi Erickson and their children, Lauren, Justin (Stacey), and John David "JD" Jr. (Whitney). John is also survived by his sisters, Anne Erickson and Karen Curry of Homestead, Florida; brothers, Jim Erickson of Jacksonville, Florida, Roger Erickson of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Doug Erickson (Irene) of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Catherine Erickson formerly of Homestead, Florida.

John was born in Muskegon, Michigan and moved to Homestead as a young child. While at South Dade High School in Homestead, John excelled in all types of sports, which led him to accept a football scholarship to Memphis State University, now the University of Memphis. John was a natural and gifted athlete dedicated to constant improvement. He was a major contributor to the MSU football program from 1971 to 1974, lettering all four years and receiving numerous accolades. John was highly respected by his coaches and his fellow team members. As an alumnus, John was an avid Tiger fan. He and Linda were regular attendees at Tiger sporting events. When the Tigers played in the 2019 Cotton Bowl, John was there to cheer on his team and was ecstatic to witness the Tigers legendary football journey and bowl appearance.

John was well known and highly respected in the construction equipment industry in Memphis and surrounding areas. He unfailingly demonstrated a selfless work ethic and was a trusted partner to his customers. He loved his work with H&E Equipment Services and consistently earned recognition as a top sales professional. John was honored to serve on the board of the Associated General Contractors of Tennessee, West Tennessee Chapter.

John treasured his family and friends. He was a supportive and loving husband and father. John was kind and had a welcoming spirit. He had the biggest smile and was the happiest person in the room. His smile and hardy, infectious laugh will be missed by many. With an endearing and warm graciousness, he chose to see the best in others. John's life is one to be celebrated and emulated. Let us remember him fondly as a humble, good man, and be inspired to continue his legacy of kindness to others.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, a celebration of John's life will be held at a future date.
