I had a terrible feeling he would die there, so I took an airplane to be with him and John was my contact with their family and his sister could come their. John supported and us all. When I was young I had the good fortune to meet John and Joe. They became lifelong friends and made me a fan of their beloved city. When I was old, John inspired me to face my own illness with courage and grace. With character and commitment as a measure I still fall short compared to Joe, but I am definitely a better man for having known you. Godspeed, dear friend.
