Gibbons, John K.
John K. Gibbons passed away unexpectedly after a short illness on March 3, 2015 in Payson, Arizona at the age of 72. John is survived by his wife, Joyce. They were married for 52 years. John is also survived by his daughter Jerrie Fails, Phoenix, his sister June Head, Tucson and grandchildren, Jonathan, Erika and Christopher Gibbons, as well as multiple nephews and nieces. John is preceded in death by his son Charles E and grandson Cory Gibbons. John was born on May 8, 1942 in Wilmington, Delaware to Charles H. and Emma Gibbons. He graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1960 with a scholarship to go to electrical apprenticeship training. John joined the Army in 1962 and was stationed at Fort Monmouth, New jersey and White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico and completed radar repair training. John finished his apprenticeship with the IBEW Local 640 after completing his military service. John worked in the electrical trade most of his life and worked as a General Foreman on large jobs including Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Phoenix. John also owned an electrical contracting company, Gibbons Electric, Inc. John will be remembered for his kindess and open generosity, his willingness to help people who were less fortunate and always without judgment. He was a mentor to so many young people about so many things, inlcuding how to be a decent loving human being. John was a great story teller and had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved to fish, hunt and camp and imparted his love of nature to everyone around him. A Memorial Service is scheduled for March 11, 2015 at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Road, Phoenix with a reception to follow at the home of Jaysen and Jerrie Fails, 1824 E. Ronald Road, Phoenix. All are welcome to attend and celebrate John's life.
