Not sure what to say?

John (General Gong) and I became scuba buddies 2005-2006. The afternoon prior to his trip home, we went on a last hurrah reef dive in about 45 feet of warm Caribbean water. On that memorable day, we saw lots of reef fish, sea turtles and other beautiful fish and corals. John was so easy going and had a the spirit of an explorer. He was young at heart and willing to do adventurous sporting things on a whim (as much as a whim an Army General can do things on). I specifically recall, his...

I and John became friend at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba while we both were stationed there. He became close friend of mine when I invited him at my residence there at dinner. As an American Muslim I was proud to have such an amazing decorated Asian/American high commanding US Military soldier who was professional in his field and proud to serve with his line of command in U.S. Army. I am gonna miss him forever.

a chance to serve.. John was a great leader in the 240th Support Battalion he treated everyone so fairly and their families too

I miss the General, he was one of the good ones. he set an example for all to live by.

Always in our heart ,always on our mind.

Johnny Gong, worked with you at Camp Swampy USPFO... sad and shocked to hear of your passing. Really loved your Chinese calendars.

1LT Johnny Gong, in my computer room at the old wooden USPFO for California. Taken in the early 70's at Camp SLO.

He was a CPT and I was a SGT (later a CWO) in the Cal Guard, we both played the guitar, our families were friends back in the mid/late 70's. I remember having a dinner or two at his and Betty's house, that he was refurbishing on his own in Morro Bay. Lost track of him and Betty until this day. I have thought of him and Betty often over the years. Johnny was a Great American, a Patriot, and a friend - our deepest condolences..

I had the pleasure to serve under General Gong. He was a outstanding leader and mentor and a kind person. I salute you for your service to our country and your caring about our soldiers.
