John J. Harmon

I met Mr. Harmon when he and a group of clergy came to Williamston, N. C. during the Civil Rights Movement. I was a teenager at the time but I always remembered the group. They were very kind and helpful. We appreciated all that they did. I lost my Dad, August 17. I wish you all love, peace, and strength. God bless. Ollie Mobley Marshall

I didn't know Mr. Harmon very well, but got into a conversation with him one winter day 3 or 4 years ago at the Abundance Coop. He ended giving me a ride home with my groceries on a cold and snowy day.

Your father was an amazing man and an example for us all.

John was one of the gentlest people I've known, yet passionate about social justice. After Nicki died, we'd chat at Abundance Co-op, where he loved to lunch and socialize. He had a joy in life that has always inspired me and will continue to.

My many thanks for your life of service to others. You fathered a beautiful daughter in Peggy and will be remembered as a loving grandfather to Blanche. Although we never met, I feel I know you through the legacy you left to these two fine women and to our world. aloha 'oe John.

I worked with John in the Director's Office at Strong Memorial Hospital. He was a wonderful, kind and gentle man. It was an honor to have worked with him. Barbara Winter
