A light went out in the world with "Johnny's" passing. I knew him as a child. He always knew his calling and was one of the kindest men I've ever known. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

A true angel in every imaginable way. It has been our honor and privilege to have known and shared time with John and his family since IWH. Our human hearts are deeply saddened by your passage, and our thoughts and sympathies go to Cindy and the entire Hess family for their immeasurable loss.
Goodbye friend... May God bless you...

Thought and prayers to you and your family. Dr. Hess was the most caring person that I knew. I will always remember when he went up to see my dad Tommy Fox in step-down at MBMC right after he had one of his treatments. That meant the world to me and my dad. He is one of the finest men I know. Sincerely Khris Hembrock

My sympathy to the Hess Family. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Hess at Lizzy and Coley's wedding. Such a gracious and kind man. I know he will be missed. God bless your family.

My Dear Friend John,

You and I were together in freshman Homeroom 109 at SLUH when we first met 54 years ago just last month. And you were always such a NICE GUY in every sense of that phrase. I have only seen you a few times since we graduated from SLUH together half a century ago, but every time you were GOOD as you had always been.

We will have our 50th SLUH reunion two weeks from this coming weekend. We will remember you, John, especially at the Mass we will celebrate...

John was my classmate and friend at Tulane Medical School, Charity Hospital residency, and work to improve scholarship at Tulane. I will miss his cheerful smile but know that his strong Catholic faith was with him to the end. I believe he is in Heaven and my prayers go Cindy and his family to accept this great loss.

A great friend, a treasured classmate. One of the nicest people I ever met. A great loss for anyone who ever met John.
