John Jansen Obituary

John "Joe" J. Jansen 1938 - 2020
Tampa, FL - John "Joe" J. Jansen, age 82, passed away on December 18, 2020 in Tampa, FL. His death was unrelated to Covid-19.
Born Johannes J. Jansen to Albertus and Katherine Jansen (Turbett) in Hempstead, NY, in 1938, Joe lived in Brooklyn and the Bronx before moving to Baltimore as a teenager. After Joe graduated from Mergenthaler Vocational High School in Baltimore, MD in 1956, he enlisted in the United States Airforce and served until 1960. He returned to Baltimore and married Margaret Quasney in 1962. After the birth of his two sons, Joe's family relocated to Danielson, CT, where he had two daughters. In 1989, Joe again relocated, this time to Orange Park, FL, where he and Margaret lived for 25 years before retiring to Boise, ID. After Margaret's passing in 2018, he moved to Tampa, FL.
Joe spent his career as a mold maker for Anchor Glass Containers. He was a proud member of the American Flint Glass Workers Union, serving as President of Local 73 (now United Steelworkers Local 9292).
Generous with his time and spirit, Joe was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who crossed his path. He loved all animals, especially dogs, who adored him in return. His favorite pastimes were cheering on his Florida Gators and watching MSNBC and arguing about the future of our country. While he suffered from cognitive decline in his final years, he never lost his sense of humor or his ability to deliver a well-timed wisecrack, meant to entertain you as much as it entertained him.
He is survived by his children, John (Nikki) Jansen, Michael Jansen, Brenda (Sean) Koski and Debbie Jansen (Chris Jackson); his sister, Katherine Arczynski; and his four grandchildren, Dawn, Stephanie, John, and Julia. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Margaret; his parents Albert and Katherine; and siblings Albert Jansen, Patricia Post, and Louise Eberwein.
A private service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Humane Society of America.
