John O'Connor Obituary

NEWTON - John P. O'Connor, 82, of Newton, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, at home.
Born in Gloversville, N.Y., Mr. O'Connor moved to New Jersey in 1959, and lived in Caldwell for 30 years before moving to Newton in 1996. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955. He received his B.S. from Indiana Institute of Technology and was a mechanical engineer for PSE&G in Newark for many years. A member of Good Shepherd R.C. Church, Mr. O'Connor was a former member of St. Aloysius, in Caldwell. He was also a member of the Sussex County Democratic Committee, a member of the Town Council in Caldwell for two terms, and was a member of Phi Kappa Theta Catholic Fraternity.
The son of the late John and Margaret (Monaghan) O'Connor, Mr. O'Connor is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rosemary (Leavens) O'Connor; his son, Patrick O'Connor and wife, Karema, of Edison; his daughter, Moira Kenah and husband, Patrick, of Fredon; his son, Michael O'Connor and wife, Marie, of Wantage; his daughter, Meghan Gill and husband, Kieran, of Newton; his son, John J. O'Connor and wife, Jamie, of Rockaway; and his grandchildren, Matthew, Mary, Michael, Elizabeth, Katelyn, Brian, Aisling, Nora and Dylan. He is also survived by his brother, Richard O'Connor, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Good Shepherd R.C. Church, Route 517, Andover Borough. Interment will follow in Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery in Green. Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 23, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, 99 Sparta Ave., Newton, N.J. 07860. Online condolences may be offered at www.smithmccrackenfuneralhome.com.

We will miss that smiling face and great sense of humor. May God's peace be with him now and with his family. Thank you for sharing him with all of us in Caldwell.
