John Putnam Obituary

John Putnam, Sr. CONOVER Mr. John Thomas Putnam, Sr., 74, passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at Catawba Valley Medical Center. He was born June 26, 1937, in Haywood County, the son of Mark and Callie Putnam. He was retired from Griffith Security, had previously worked at Regal Manufacturing and was a member of Springs Road Baptist Church. Mr. Putnam enjoyed listening to bluegrass music and fishing, but most of all he loved being with his grandchildren. He was a hardworking person who was also devoted to his family. He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Lucille Davis, Lorene Price and Christine Price, and four brothers, Kirk Putnam, Warren Putnam, Earl Putnam and Rayford Putnam. Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances Horne Putnam; a daughter, Teresa Putnam Huffman, of Catawba; two sons, Father John T. Putnam, Jr., of Salisbury and Scott Anthony Putnam, of Conover; five sisters, Hattie Agalos, Betty Jean Russell, Joyce Southerland, Dorothy Price and Hester Moody; a brother, Charles Putnam; five grandchildren and one great-grand-child. A Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Hickory, by Father John Putnam. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Springs Road Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Catawba Funerals and Cremations.
