Lowndes Funeral Home and Crematory - Columbus Obituary

John David Shepherd, 84, of Brandon, MS passed away Friday, November 20, 2020, at his residence.


A graveside service will be Sunday, December 6, 2020, at 3:30 PM at Union Hill Cemetery, Dekalb, MS with pastor Wilson officiating and Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. The family asks that everyone that attends to wear a mask.


Mr. Shepherd was born on October 1, 1936, in Gholson, MS to the late Ethel Marie Nester Shepherd and Willie M. Shepherd. He attended Dekalb High School, East Mississippi Community College, and Belhaven University where he received a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Mr. Shepherd served in the Army National Guard at Camp Shelby and later in life he owned JDS Creative Construction Company. He was a longtime member of Southside Assembly of God in Jackson, MS and he attended “Word of Life” of Brandon, MS his last year of living there. He was a dedicated Christian, whom always put God first. A devoted husband and an amazing father and grandfather. Those who knew John loved him dearly. He will be missed by many.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Shephard is preceded in death by his brothers- Willian Shepherd and Brooks Shepherd; sisters- Deloris McMullen, Carolyn Rester, and Cherry Dailey.


Mr. Shepherd is survived by his children- Melinda Kim (John) Whelan, David Shepherd, and Debra (Ian)  Cranfield; grandchildren- John J. Whelan Jr., Rebecca Marie Whelan, and Levi Cranfield; brother- Kline Shepherd; sisters- Opal McBryer, Madge Fields, Sallie Henderson, Gloria Jean Bynum, and Fay Coleman.


Pallbearers will be Ronnie Bellamy, Jonathan Richy, Cleve Coleman, Martin Coleman, Greg lane, and Ricky Hartness.
