Not sure what to say?

I just wanted John's family to know that I think of him all the time. John and I were teammates at The Prep (Basketball and Baseball). In the spring we would go to baseball practice then take the subway down to 4th and Shunk to play in the Spring Basketball League. Time was short and we would do our homework while waiting, eating or commuting. I remember thinking how this was both cool and hard to go to school all day then baseball practice, then a basketball game only to get home and finish...

I didn't know John but he is forever in my memories from my OIF deployment. I was the part of the team that found him in the desert outside of FOB Duke after the sandstorm the night before. I assisted in the recovery of his body and we ensured that it was done honorable and respectful. I later confirmed his identity with the Navy by going through his personal flight equipment and finding JS etched into his flashlight.
I just wanted to let his family and friends know that I'm forever...

I received Lt. Col. Spahr's name on an In Memorium card for Memorial Day at NGA. I am heartbroken for his family's loss, and tears have been streaming down my face here at work as I read the touching memories of him. I hope it gives you some comfort to know that his sacrifice and your loss has not been forgotten. God bless you!

Had the opportunity to visit John's grave today to pay my respects to one of the finest men I have had the opportunity to meet. Hard to imagine his passing was eleven years ago. I would like his Family to know I pray for John every Sunday...and they are all in my prayers today.

Semper Fidelis,
Mike Cederholm

Rest in Peace Col. Spahr!
