Alexander Funeral Home, Inc. - Charlotte Obituary

John began his thriving journey on May 9, 1938, in Van Wyck, South Carolina, to the late John Steele, Sr. and Mary B. Steele. He transitioned from earth to spiritual relief on Wednesday, November 25, 2020.

"Johnny" joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church at an early age. He received his education at Reid High. After high school, John attended Johnson C. Smith University where many encounters became life-long and enduring bonds. Later, John pursued his desire to expand his purpose beyond the city limits of Belmont, NC, and joined the United States Army, where he served as a paratrooper and later met and married Veronica (Ronnie). This marriage yielded three children. Along with the many other hats that he wore as a science teacher and principal at Belmont Junior High, Albemarle Road Middle, and Carmel Junior High, John later retired as an active reservist. Ultimately, his love for family led him to embrace his Native American heritage, and he was soon looked upon as Paha Najin (Stands on Hill). Over time he became a multicultural ambassador of selfless love.

John leaves to cherish his memories, legacy, and attributes a succession of family and close friends. John is survived by: Jackie Hollingsworth-Steele of Charlotte, NC, Monica Emmer (Ed) of Lexington, SC, and John Corey Steele of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Mary B. Steele; two granddaughters, four grandsons, two great-granddaughters, four great-grandsons, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
