Dear Adrienne,
Through the Navy League,I have only now learned of John's death.
May I extend my condolences to you and the family, even at this late moment.
I was his Executive Officer during his command of Navy Reserve unit NR SAMAR 1-1. It was my privilege and pleasure to have served with him. His shipmates and crew will miss him.

To the Thompson Family,
I just found out about your very sad bereavement. John was a man that I respected and admired very much. Sorry I could not be with you in person. My deepest sympathy.

As one of the few remaining "Mooney's Alley" Falmouth group, Don and I send our prayers and sympathy to you on the loss of John. He was a good man and will be sorely missed.
