Not sure what to say?

When I first met him in 9th grade history class (1981-1982), he was intimidating and strict. But soon became one of my favorite teachers. His love of history and teaching style helped fuel my love for it. Prayers and thoughts are with the family.

Jack was a wonderful person and colleague whom I had the pleasure of teaching and working with at Catoctin High School for many years. He was an excellent teacher and kind hearted individual. I am greatful for having the opportunity to work in the same school with him and he touched many lives in this community. God grant him peace and comfort his family.

Mr. Umbel was one of my favorite teachers through high school. He made history fun to learn. He will be greatly missed. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

Our history teacher at Catoctin and coworker with my dad. Nice memories as one of his students. Prayers and thoughts are with his family, that he rests in peace.

Mary, So sorry to hear of your loss. We live in building 117 and our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mr. Umbel was my 9th grade history teacher. A bit intimidating at first, but I learned that he had so much knowledge in there to pass to his students and he was very excited to do just that. Later I learned he had way more patience than most adults do with teenagers. He was a good teacher and I'm sure a good man. My sympathy is with his family during this difficult time.
