John Vercher Obituary

VERCHER John B. Vercher, Sr. (Lt. Cmdr, USN Retired), a Renaissance Man, departed this life suddenly on Feb 2, 2015 - his 73rd Birthday. He loved classic cars, 50's Rock N Roll, and Miss Bobbie. He was dearly loved and survived by his wife, Bobbie Jean, son John Jr. (Norma), daughter Missy (Lisa), and two grandkids, Kelsey and Jack. Born Feb 2, 1942 to Washington Joseph and Susie Dubois Vercher in Colfax, LA, he was a proud graduate of Ole Miss c/o 1970. He was married 52 years to the love of his life and best friend BJ. He passed a wealth of wit and wisdom to his children and grandchildren who will cherish him forever. His constant companion and shop dog, Sweetie Peetie, will miss her Daddy. Johnny B. was a gearhead, drag racer, blackjack player, fabricator, Ford fan, and the consummate authority on all things automotive. The world has lost a true original, and his family and friends have lost a great man. I just made a delivery out Rebar 3rd thought I'd check out an old home I spent time at in high school. Saw another name on the mailbox and Googled Mr. Vercher's name. So sorry to hear of this famies great lose, this guy played a huge part in my love for speed and cool old horrors. Think of the Vercher family often (John and Missy), fun times in high school. Just great people. Hope all are doing well. You dad was a very cool guy.

Bobbie, I hope the initial shock and pain have eased somewhat and that you have been able to get your thoughts together about your life, going forward. Johnny B would have wanted Peace, Comfort and Joy to follow you the rest of your life. The VOID in all of our hearts is so hard to live with, but the JOY of remembering Johnny almost every day puts a smile on my face. Knowing someone for 50+ years REALLY lets you know the goodness they represented and how all should appreciate it. Tell John and Missy they can always be PROUD, knowing their Father was JOHNNY B VERCHER.

John Beaufort was a good friend and fellow motorhead. He takes with him a part of the heart of everyone who knew him and a wealth of knowledge and history. He had many many fine attributes not the least of which was a deeply analytical mind. Any time I called to ask a technical question he took the time to give it much consideration and came up with sound answers.

I always enjoyed listening to his stories of adventure and accomplishment. Many of these stories were about family and friends that he loved so very much. At the Memorial Service given in his behalf it was very obvious that Johnny and Bobbie and the kids were highly respected and greatly loved by a large number of people.

We will all miss you Johnny, you leave a void in our hearts. May God hold Bobbie, Missy and John Jr in his warm embrace until we all meet again. Thank you for your service to our country.

Love, Jim & Connie Trice

I will miss you so much Mr.Johnny. Who will call my old behind self kid now? Thank you for always loving me just because. There are no words to express the depths of emotion and loss felt by me and my family. Mr. Johnny and Ms. BJ have been there for me in the hardest times of my life and imparted in me the life lessons that I needed to be the person I am now, for that I will be forever grateful.

I considered Johnny B to be one of my best friends, he was always ready to help with whatever screw ball project I came up with. He helped me on all my Fords,Cushman's and Mustangs many many times. He had more knowledge on engines then anybody I know and was always willing to share. I will miss Johnny greatly and I can only express my deepest sympathy to Bobby and Family

Bobbie, I don't really know what to say except when I heard about Johnny B., I was taken back to the first place I remember seeing him. That little coffee shop there on the corner of Lane Ave. and Ramona Blvd. I thought about the wealth of knowledge stored in his head, and the wit with which he could tell a story. Dennis used to love talking to him. I miss Dennis so much I don't know what to do sometimes. I will be praying for you and Your family as you go thru this time. I hope to see you on Thursday evening.

Johnnie B was my go-to advisor for automotive puzzles for many years. I am very glad I was able to talk to him the day before he left this earth. He will be missed by many of us. Our hearts go out to his family and we hope many good memories will ease their loss.

Johnny was many things to many people. For me, he was Part time mentor, adviser, teacher, Philosopher, and sometimes like a Dad. But most important of all for over 40 years he was Full time Best of Friends. Bobbi, John, Missy and your Family's, I pray that you can take some comfort in knowing that your grief is shared by so many. God's speed Johnny B, You are already missed.

Naomi and I were stunned to hear about the loss of such a long-time friend and colleague. JohnnyB and I met in 1959 in Navy Memphis – Avionics School – where we became fast friends and where he courted a young lady that changed the course of his life. He was always “there for me.” I recall once when I was put in “restriction” for missing a muster; he helped carry my “stuff” all the way across base to the restriction barracks – and back “home” when I was released a few days later. We made so many memories over the years together and words cannot express the grief that we feel as we come to grips with the ending of an old friend's tour here and he weighs anchor to set sail into eternity – I can't wait to reminisce once again “over there” with him. Bon-voyage my friend.

My deepest sympathy and condolences to all of Johnny B's family and friends. Although I only had the privilege of meeting him once, I've heard Missy's stories of him for over twenty years. He was greatly loved and will sorely missed.

I am deeply saddened to read about the loss of a great mentor "Johnny B " Vercher. I've known Johnny for 35 years and I don't think he ever aged a day. Although I haven't spoke with him in a couple of years, I know he would remember the last thing we talked about. If there is one thing he taught me by "living it out in his own life" it is "To do what you love and love what you do'.I would not have the life I have today if he hadn't shared his with me.
God bless and God speed.

Johnny B was an original, as all who knew him will easily attest. Focused, with straight priorities, an honorable man always. Enjoyed his friends, loved his family, and someone we will all sorely miss. This planet is much lighter now.

Johnny B proved to be a great, dedicated Friend in his early Navy career when we were both assigned to a Helicopter Squadron in Norfolk, VA.. I think it helped pair us together by us being the two new Southern Boys. That early friendship picked up several tines over the next 50 years and we stayed that way and even closer as we aged. I'm thankful for his presence in my life and the joy and comfort he brought to thers through the years. R.I.P. My Great Friend. You WILL be missed.
