I purchased John´s "College Football" in 2001. I read it cover-to-cover then and pulled it off the bookshelf often afterwards. Sorry to learn of his passing.

I met John in Tokyo, Japan, and flew with him to our first teaching assignments at Daegu South Korea. We had a nice little place to stay at the lodge on base: two bedrooms with bath and kitchen separating. That's where I got to know John, over glasses of beer most of the time. He was a brilliant man, with a unique way of looking at the world. I learned from him and remain grateful. I miss you, John.

I only learned of John's passing today. I taught alongside him in Korea way back in 1987. He was a fine man, a good man, and adventurous and kind man. I miss him.

I just learned of Mr Watterson´s passing a few days ago. I was very saddened by the news. He was one of the sweetest kindest people I knew. He will truly be missed. Sending my condolences to his Mrs. Watterson, his family & friends.

Yvonne, Betsy and I have been in Asheville, NC helping with the grandkids over Easter. Upon our return, we were sad to learn of John's death. John was a great guy with so many interests and great generosity of both spirit and substance. We are all blessed by John's good life. Take best care, David and Betsy Poist

I admired John for organizing an essential tremor support group and often read his lively letters to the editor about UVA. My deepest sympathies.

I came to know John through his and Yvonne's generosity. He was always curious about the most recent innovations in the nonprofit sector, meeting our community's greatest and most forgotten needs. It was a privilege to speak with him on any subject, with such a bright mind and accomplished life. I will greatly miss our phone chats. Yvonne, our hearts are with you.
