Byles-Groton Memorial Home - Groton Obituary

Jonnie Robin Jordan, 60, of Groton, died unexpectedly Tuesday December 5, 2023 at her residence.  Jonnie was born October 2, 1963 in Ordell, New Jersey to John Jordan and Gladys Swindle Jordan, they preceded her in death.

Jonnie graduated from Robert E. Fitch high School.  She worked for many years in the hospitality industry as a server and bartender at the Groton Motor Inn and  Sneekers Café.

We celebrate and remember our beloved mother the way we all cherished her, in her most beautiful light; fresh face of makeup and with painted lips, while country music listening, reading and cooking.

This is a woman who would have let the whole neighborhood move in if they needed it. She enjoyed finding a sunny spot by the pool while her cousin and friends would bring the kids over to hang out. Cooking for everyone and anyone became the highlights of Jonnie’s life, man she could cook literally anything. Reminiscing on her grilling steaks bright and early for her fur baby Milli, this was a normal routine for our mother. She fought hard to love and live for all of us.

She loved her children, her niece Rebecca, and Mikey more than anyone. So proud of Rebecca’s two children, Natalie and Joey, with whom she found the will to make some of her lasting memories with.

Her battle is not lost but it is finished, she can finally be at peace with the angels greeting her at the pearly gates accompanied by her beloved Mother (Nanny), and Rottweiler of course. A wise woman said, “what we once loved we will never lose, because they are forever in our hearts”.

Jonnie is survived by her loving daughter Jordan Tamborra, beloved son Kyle Niddrie, stepdaughter Sara Sullivan, sister Sunni Smith, half-brother Robert Block and longtime companion Michael Niddrie.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by brother Edward Jordan and sister Samantha Jordan

The family will greet friends Wednesday December 13, 2023 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Byles Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames Street in Groton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jonnie’s memory to Community Speaks Out, 214 B Thames Street, Groton CT 06340.

So very sorry for your loss, you are in our thoughts during this difficult time.

I worked with Jonnie in the 1980s at the Bonanza Steak House and followed her to The Ground Round. We had a lot of fun, all of us young women, at work and out of work. Jonnie was a big part of that. She had impeccable manners and was a very good waitress. My deepest sympathy to her children and family. It is a great loss to lose someone special like Jonnie before her time.

Sorry for your loss. Jonnie's smile and personality were the best.
