Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home - Lorain Obituary

Jose Raúl Vega, 78, of Lorain, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. He was born September 8, 1939 in Guánica, Puerto Rico to Anicasio and Doris Vega.

Jose came to Lorain in 1977. Prior to moving, he started his teaching career in Corozal, P.R., where he taught for 7 years. He went on to teach for an additional 28 years eventually retiring from Lorain City Schools. He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain. As a member for 30 years of the L.C.C.C Civic Chorale he was able to indulge in his love of music. He enjoyed singing and directing and was known for his beautiful tenor voice.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 54 years, Petrita, his son John (Edna) Vega, his daughter Wendy (Andrew) Andino. His memory will continue to live on within the hearts of his grandchildren Andres Jr. (Cassandra), Jon (Jessica), Christina (Austin), Daniel, and Ryan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be deeply missed by his two brothers, Hector Vega and Nelson Vega.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Family and friends are invited Saturday, September 8, 11:30 AM to a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Father William A. Thaden, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
