My brother, Joe, showed his love for all things in nature even as a young child. The bumble bee tree, pill bugs and lady bugs, butterflies and robins, and the fish in the local lake and Ocean Beach fascinated him. His favorite song in kindergarten was about the small creatures in a garden. I was happy for him when he landed his dream job working for the parks and I was happy when he took me to the different parks where he worked. I first met Joe when he was a Cadet trainee in the Skagit Valley College Park Ranger Law Enforcement Academy in 2001. I knew him to be a good man, thoughtful, passionate about protecting, conserving, preserving and interpreting natural, cultural and historic resources. Above all, he was kind.
