Joseph Arrighi Obituary

On September 12, 2014, Joseph "Joe" Arrighi was delivered peacefully to heaven. Born on January 16, 1931 to Armida and Alberto Arrighi, Joe was extremely proud of his Italian heritage. Instilled with the values of his hard-working parents, Joe was success-driven and motivated to accomplish great things in his life. At 17 he purchased a gas station in Daly City and at the time was the youngest Mobil Oil dealer in the country -- eventually becoming one of the company's top producers. Soon after, he met the love of his life, Pat, and they eloped to Carson City, Nevada, and were married on August 17, 1949. They started a family with the arrival of their two daughters, Christine and Cookie, and settled in the Gerstle Park neighborhood of San Rafael. As a young man Joe's recreational activities included boating, waterskiing and competitive drag racing. In later years, he became a veritable golf enthusiast and spent hours out on the golf course. In partnership with his brother, Lou Arrighi, Joe built hundreds of designer swimming pools in Marin as co-owner of Arrighi Brothers Custom Pools. Fueled by their motto, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going", the hard-working brothers eventually diversified and formed Patio World -- one of the largest outdoor furniture dealerships in California. After opening multiple locations across the Bay Area and together with their wives, Pat and Bobbie, they transformed the stores into popular off-season Christmas shops which were described as "winter wonderlands". Longtime residents of Novato, Pat and Joe retired in 1990 to spend quality--and quantity--time with their cherished granddaughters, Carly and Valerie. Joe delighted in chauffeuring his little princesses to school every morning. One of the highlights of Joe's retirement was acting as assistant coach to Valerie's CYO championship basketball team. In his spare time, he could be seen playing golf with his brother, travelling the world with his wife and family, throwing 4th of July celebrations at their house on Stinson Beach, and forever doing "bookwork". Constantly together and inseparable, Pat and Joe recently celebrated 65 joyous, adventurous, and loving years of marriage. While our family is devastated and heartbroken by the loss of this dynamo of a man who NEVER wasted a day in his life, we will go on. He will be incredibly missed as our family transitions from a life led by him to one inspired by him. Joe is survived by his devoted and loving wife Pat, cherished and loyal brother and sister-in-law Lou and Bobbie Arrighi, adoring daughters Christine Valente and Cookie Arrighi, faithful son-in-law Ken Valente, adored and idolized granddaughters Carly Kincheloe and Valerie Valente, and newly acquired and equally loved grandson John Kincheloe. "Nonno Joe" was an adoring and beloved uncle to Teresa Campbell and Janice Burgan, as well as to their compassionate and loving husbands Dennis Campbell and Philippe Burgan. Nonno Joe's legacy lives on with pride through his "All American" nieces and nephews: Mimi Burgan, Lindsey Campbell, Louis Campbell, Megan Campbell, Ryan Campbell and Enzo Burgan. We couldn't love you more, Nonno... have fun up there building rock walls with Clarence. Services will be held on Friday, September 19th at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Novato at 10:30 a.m. The address is 1806 Novato Blvd, Novato. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to The Our Lady of Loretto Adopt-A-Student Scholarship Program, 1811 Virginia Avenue, Novato, California 94945, or to a charity of your choice. Dear Chris, Cookie and Pat,

I am so sorry to hear about your dad and husband's passing. I have wonderful memories of being at your home in San Rafael when Chris and I were classmates at San Domenico. You certainly have many reasons to be proud of your dad, his accomplishments, and most of all the wonderful tight knit circle of love that he created with you all. I know that you will miss him most tenderly. May your sadness be overshadowed by many great memories and by each other. Thanks for being a part of my life.

Fond memories of Mr. Arrighi and family. Our family lived just around the corner at 4 Marin St. in Gerstle Park. Mr. Arrighi was often outside smiling and saying hello on my way back from School. One memory that I always remember is his letting me play with his huge St. Bernard and going to Patio World to see the Christmas decorations with my Mom & Grandpa. Thank you Mr. Arrighi for happy memories.
Deepest Sympathy to the Arrighi Family.

Pat and Cookie: I met you, and Joe, in the "fusion center" at Marin Cancer Care when my mother, Charlotte, was getting chemo at the same time that Joe was. Although of course she didn't look forward to the fusion itself, she always looked forward to seeing Joe. Joe was always cheery and upbeat and it I know it helped her tremendously. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing - he seemed like a wonderful person! And you 3 had such fun - even in the fusion room!! He will be remembered!
