Fr. Doyle was a great man to me. I was struggling to finance my wedding at St. Joseph in Houston, and he did it for free. I am so grateful, and I told him. He also enticed me to become a minister to assist in giving the blood of God in masses. Oh, he also asked Joe Higgs to take me into his house in Austin when I attended UT. He supported me so much.

I worked with Father Doyle on the Jesuit Finance Committee for a number of years. When my wife was pregnant with our second (and final) child I told Father Doyle that if we had a boy I would stay on the committee (my eldest was a girl) but if it was a girl I would be stepping down. Father Doyle heard we had given birth and called me to find out what we had, and when I told him a girl, he just laughed and said "I guess you will getting off the committee" and that it was great to have worked with me. He took my wife, Tricia, and I out for dinner when we were first married and his friendship was one we valued very much. Please know we have him in our prayers. He was a wonderful man. Fondly, Andy & Tricia Hirsch

Father Doyle left a lasting impression with everyone he met. At St. Joseph he made each parishioner feel special, important and included. He so loved our youth and for that we will forever be grateful. God bless him and keep him.

Truly, words cannot describe our loss… Father, Papa, Shepherd, Counselor, Listener, Comforter, Healer, Guide, Rock, Joy, Shelter….. Yes my Papa Joe was all of these and yet SO MUCH more. I am from Sunset, LA and knew Father from his days in Grand Coteau. He married Sandy and I, and my only son is named after my father and Father Joe (my two papas). He has always been there for us even if he was far away. Now he is, to us, even farther away but knowing Joe he is probably guiding me right now as I type. I could indeed write pages about Joe but I believe he would want to be remembered in an analogy I once heard him give of what he tried to be…. He pictured himself as a BIG floppy sheepdog shepherding his flock and his job was to lovingly keep them together and headed in the right direction…. WELL DONE our good and faithful servant! See… Sandy told you there were dogs in Heaven…. Merci Mon BON BON Pere’

I realized the special company that I was in the first time I met Father at TBPAC for a tasting. I regret never having my New Orleans style breakfast with him while he was still here and I have to believe that we will have our breakfast at another time in another place. I hope that I can make my homemade Cajun Bloody Mary mix for him in Heaven as I promised I would. I will always have a special place in my heart for him. The world was a better place with him in it!

Everyone has that certain teacher that made "the" difference in their life....Father Doyle was that guy for me. We stayed in touch through college and I even asked Father Doyle to "stand" with my Presbyterian preacher at my wedding, but he was performing another wedding that weekend. He was missed then and is missed now. I only wish I had called him when I thought of him over the last 10 years....
We'll miss you Papa Joe!

Father Doyle was my family's Pastor at St. Joseph's in Houston. We all loved him dearly. What a beautiful, deeply spiritual and passionate soul! There will never be an equal for he was truly unique. We never wanted him to leave our parish. He was the rock we needed when our church burned. He and my brother made the front page of the Chronicle on that fateful day. That picture showed the kind of man he was - strong , compassionate, and determined. We take comfort in the fact that he is now in Heaven watching over all that he cared for.

Father Joe's passing leaves great sadness in my heart. He touched so many lives and always left the gift of love to all. There is no way to express how big of an impact he had on my family and I, but with Father Joe's passing, we are left with a great loss and the Heaven's now have an even brighter star.

I am deeply saddened by the death of Father Doyle. I know we all have to pass away at some point in our lives. Father Doyle did so much for me and my family that I would be here for hours writing about his generosity and kindness! He always had a nice way of explaining death to children! God bless Father Doyle and his family and the Jesuit community. I know he is smiling looking down on us with his goatee! My you rest in peace, father Doyle!

Father Doyle was such a blessing and comfort to our family, as he was to so many others. It was such a pleasure knowing this man whose heart reached out to touch and impact the lives of many, especially the children. Father Doyle definitely created the "ripple" effect, likened to one dropping a pebble in the water and observing its long-range wavy impact on the water, radiating far beyond one’s visual field, just like his life affected all who knew and loved him.
May he be eternally blessed as he blessed others,

Fr. Doyle was everything I respect in a man and a priest. His hugs and good wishes were just as sincere following his celebration and retirement from Jesuit than when we hugged following my graduation in '66. Although he struggled to be understood that particular day, there was never any stuggle to interpret what he said loudly and clearly with his heart. As he joins the communion of saints, I am forever greatful of the gift I was given to have had him in my life. May God bless you and keep you.

Where do you begin when speaking about Father Doyle. "A man for Others" boy he truly belived in that quote and followed it everyday of his life. A man who didn't care about material things and tried to convey that message in his everyday mission. A man who was so apprecative of anything you could do in giving back to the family of Jesuit. Thank you for our wonderful memories of Jesuit High School. Thank you for all the men you had taught and will always follow your quote in being "Men for Others". We all know that you may be gone from this earth, but in all of the hearts you have touched along the way.... you will never be forgotten.

Father Doyle was truly a man for others. Anyone who knew him, knew that he brought something special to the table. He was able to inspire the young and old alike with his less-than-conventional ministry style, and he was a dear friend to so many students and their families. It is a very sad day for Jesuit High School, the place that he helped develop both physicially and spiritually. Whether you've been to one of his masses or just met him in passing, you knew that you were in the presence of a true saint. Perhaps it was his frequent reminders that he loved you (even if he didn't know your name and called you "Good Brother") or his deep interest in seeing you succeed in school, athletics, or otherwise, he was a special friend and mentor. May God bless him and those who today mourn his loss.

Father Doyle was a gift to me and my two sons when they attended Jesuit. As a single mother, I struggled to make ends meet for 2 years to try to afford to send my two sons to Jesuit at the same time. He was a peaceful, gentle, understanding soul. He always told me not to worry about anything and sent me off with the comfort of knowing that my most important job was to continue to be the kind of mother for my sons that I needed to be. They are grown now - in their twenties - and are beautiful, successful, kind and gentle young men. I thank Father for being a shining light on days when I felt there was some darkness. May he rest in our Lord's eternal peace.

Father Doyle was a wonderful, kind, and genuine man. He personified a "man for others" and was an outstanding example of what a priest should be. He married us and baptized two of our children. We know his prayers helped us through trying times. Now our prayers are with him. He made a positive difference in the lives of others and will always be remembered.
