Joseph Machi Obituary

Joseph Machi
June 3, 1935 - March 6, 2023
Joe was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to his parents, Giovanni Machi and Annetta (Tarantino) Machi. Upon the death of his father, Joe, his sister, Frances, and their mother, Annetta, took the long train trip to San Francisco to join her brothers and sisters. They settled in their beloved North Beach. Joe attended Sts. Peter and Paul Grammar School and Sacred Heart High School, class of 1954. He began working at a very young age to help support his young widowed mother and sister. He became a butcher and worked at Petrini's, Little City Meats, Panelli Meats, and finally ran his own shop in the Hi Ho Market. He later became a partner at the Washington Square Meats in North Beach. His last job was as a Salesman for Columbus Salame Company until his retirement. In 1960, he met the love of his life, Yolanda Ghiglieri. They were happily married for 63 years. They have two beautiful children, Lisa Ann Rose (John) and John Frederick Machi. Besides his children, he leaves his grandchildren, Fabiana Mendez, Gabriella Jones (Aaron), Dante, and Ciana Machi, his sister, Frances Balestrieri (Steve), her children, his brother-in-law, Louis Ghiglieri (Diane), their children' and numerous Balestreri, Tarantino, and Alioto cousins. He had a great passion for cars and love for his Golden Retriever, Shelby. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, March 15th, with the Viewing at 10:00am and Funeral Mass at 11:00am at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 666 Filbert Street, San Francisco, CA. The burial service will be private. Donations are encouraged to be made in Joseph's name to the Little Sisters of the Poor (San Francisco, CA) or the Salesian Boy's and Girl's Club (San Francisco, CA).

My Dearest Yolanda,
You and Joe were such a force with my Parents, Tom and Rose.
The cousin club, the cars will live in my heart forever.
I'm sure my Father is happy now that he has his favorite cousin to kick tires and polish all of their vintage cars.
My memories will keep them both.
Much love always,
Kathleen

I keep thinking of all the trips our families took together...Calistoga, Boulder Creek, River and how much fun they were. Joe cooked us wonderful meals, made us laugh and most of all loved us like his own! Joe and Yolanda both were such good friends to my parents. Car shows, endless trips to the Moresco´s beautiful home in Sonoma, dinners out, etc. When my dad passed they were so good to my mom. She was always included in everything they did till the day she passed. Yolanda smile thru your tears and cherish those memories. All my love......Chris
