William J. Burke & Sons / Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes Obituary

Broadalbin, NY – Joseph William Meuse III, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Saratoga Hospital.

Born in Medford, MA on December 24, 1945, he was the son of the late Cynthia P. Koch and Joseph William Meuse Jr. He was married to his wife Linda for 57 years, and they were longtime residents of Saratoga Springs.

Joe was a graduate of Cheshire Academy High School, CT and went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Connecticut. Upon graduation, he went to work for the General Electric Company, where he remained for 35 years, culminating in supervising the construction of hydro electrical nuclear power plants around the world, including Wales, England and Saudi Arabia.

Joe grew up on Cape Cod and became an avid sailor and a decorated swimmer. He coached little league baseball for 10 years, and enjoyed officiating pop warner, high school and some college football games. He was a longtime member of the Elks Club, and after retirement, volunteered at the Saratoga Automobile Museum for many years with his wife Linda. Most of all, however, Joe was a mentor and teacher to many, never forgetting his own humble beginnings, he was able to connect and inspire across generations. His compassion for others, selflessness, and sense of humor were constants in his life.

He is survived by his wife Linda and their four boys, Joseph William IV, Eric Raymond, Mark Anthony, and Brendan Scott; as well as his brother Dustin and sister Suzanne. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and was pre-deceased by his beloved dog, Rusty Nail.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Saratoga Hospital for their kind, sympathetic and professional care.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 12-2pm, Saturday, July 15, 2023 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 (518-584-5373). There will be a reception to follow immediately at Mama Mia’s Italian Restaurant, 185 Ballston Ave, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Not sure what to say?

I certainly have a remembrance of Joe, not just today on the anniversary of his passing, but, my remembrance is one that is forever, for my memories are etched and will be with me until my dying day. For Joe and I did not share an ongoing communication, as life’s journey takes us in different directions. But seeing he had passed when I tried to reach out was an awakening for me, maybe it should be for others, reach out to those you have such fond memories of throughout your life, just say...

I was very saddened just now after trying to locate Joe, only to find out of his passing. My deepest profound sympathies to his wife their children and all those that knew and loved him understanding their loss. He was one of the very best gentleman I knew growing up, had many great memories. And Joe left each of us a treasure, those individual personal memories.
God Bless

I just found out about Joes passing, Joe was my godfather (Linda is my godmother) They have been the most wonderful godparents, I just spoke to Joe last year. I am so sorry for your family's loss and will send all my love to Linda and the family. We spend many summers together as families (Martin Family)

Dear Linda, I was really saddened to hear about Joe’s passing. Both of you were so supportive to me and my children after my divorce in the ‘80s. I had just started my stint in GE International with Tom McKone and wasn’t sure how my life would work out. You guys made me feel that the world would go on.and that things would get better. They did ! We never got to buy the place on the Lake near you guys, but I suppose that was not to be. The important thing is to be good parents to...

What a remarkable guy, will surely be missed. Our deepest condolences to the Meuse family.

Meuse Family, so many great memories growing up across the street from the Meuse's on Trottingham. From trying to roll my tongue when ready to wrestle like Mr. Meuse and all the boys, to him buying my first pair of skis (wooden) and teaching me how to ski at Alpine Mtn, many sleepovers with Brendan, and the many many days and nights at the camp on Sacandaga and trips to get ice cream or to the I-Go-Inn. Mr. Meuse was always laughing and smiling, and coming up with things for us boys to do...

The Meuse and Longley families go back a long time - more than 50 years - when as young parents we moved across the street from one another in Geyser Crest. Our combined 6 children grew up together and roamed and ruled our section of Trottingham Road. When Geyser Road school opened our two families had a child in each grade: from Chris in 1st to Joey in 6th. The kids had a fun childhood from swimming in the Meuse pool to playing wiffle ball and Ghosts in the graveyard in our backyard.
