In addition to his literary and professional accomplishments, Captain Joe was a consummate artisan of waterfowl carvings, a zealous and masterful fisherman, and a talented musician. I have always remembered with pride and childlike awe the social occasions when Uncle Joe and my father Ray would formally or spontaneously entertain their friends, accompanying each other on the drums and piano. Aunt Peggy and all of my cousins - I'm deeply sorry about Uncle Joe's death. Please know our prayers are with you during this difficult time. I'm down at the shore right now and when I look out onto the ocean, I thinking about Uncle Joe and how he loved the Jersey shore. We all have good memories to hold on to and will keep them close to our hearts.
