Joyce Hale Wiley

I am heartbroken to hear of her passing. She was a ray of light in this often dark world. Her spirit and positivity were an inspiration. My thoughts and prayers are with Jack and the entire family.

I first met Joyce when I was serving in the Iowa Legislature. Her passion and care for the LGBTQ community, particularly the youth, was contagious. I owe a great deal of my knowledge of LGBTQ issues to Joyce. At the time I was working with her on issues like marriage equality and anti-bullying legislation I never knew that one day I would be blesses to become a mother of an LGBTQ child. My prayers and condolences are with your family as you mourn your loss but know her advocacy of youth...

Joyce was more than my boss, she truly felt like a mother to me. Teaching me something new everyday. Always discussing current events, politics, books and religion. Cooking with her at work, sharing our admiration of Julia Childs and her evening loaning me her cook book " Mastering The Art of French Cooking. She was and will continue to be our ally.

Joyce was a lovely person who worked tirelessly for others. I had the pleasure of meeting her many years ago and have remembered and admired her work since that time. My sympathy to her family.

To the Wiley Family and Beyond...Joyce was a diminutive yet massive force in our community who taught me what being a straight ally means. I had the pleasure to work with Joyce for over a decade on the issues of LGBTQ education and rights, bullying prevention, and community activism. She never compromised her steadfast beliefs and was a life-changing inspiration to me. No one can ever fill her shoes. You were an angel on earth, and I imagine the wings handed to you in heaven are HUGE! ...
