Judith Cobb Obituary

COBB Judith Sharp Cobb With loving support from her family, Judy passed away peacefully at her Metairie home on December 18, 2011 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was 72 years of age. Beloved wife of 51 years to Brigadier General James Boehringer Cobb, USAF, (RET). The mother of Cynthia Cobb Trist, (Nick); and Constance Cobb Brennan, (Tommy). Mimi, as the family called her, was the loving grandmother of Nicholas Trist IV, Beau Trist, Thomas Brennan, Blakely Brennan and Cooper Brennan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Fulton Sharp, MD and Florence Durand Sharp. She is also survived by her brother, Robert F. Sharp, Jr., MD, (Susan); sisters, Sandra Clarke (the late CAPT. John Clarke), and Kathleen Theriot (Don), numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. The family gratefully acknowledges the loving care and friendship given by her business partner and very best friend Alice DePass, with whom she co-owned Alice Designs, Inc. Throughout the years, they have designed and created some of the most beautiful gowns for many of New Orleans' debutants and carnival organizations. In 2011 she was honored by being named the Royal Couturier of the Rex Organization. Judy was born in New Orleans and raised in Old Metairie, a graduate of Metairie Park Country Day School and Sophie Newcomb College, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was married in 1961 and became an Air Force wife, joining her husband at Homestead AFB, FL. Within the year they transferred to Schilling AFB, Salina, Kansas; where her first child was born. Later the family returned to New Orleans and settled in Old Metairie to raise the family. She enjoyed renewing old school friends and playing tennis at the New Orleans Country Club. In later years she became a passionate fan of her five grandchildren, seldom missing any of their sporting events. For many years she hosted her children and grandchildren and their friends in Destin, FL during Easter and summer vacations. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League of New Orleans, The Orleans Club, and The Reserve Officers Association League (ROAL). She was a past member of the Alumni Board of Metairie Park Country Day School. She also served for several years on both the Vestry of St. Martins Church and on the Alter Guild. While many will mourn her passing with heavy hearts, she leaves those hearts full with the warm, loving memories of a lifetime spent surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 1:00 PM at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation from 11:00 AM until service time. B.J., Judy was a gracious and talented lady. When I lived in Japan 55 yrs ago, my mother bought some turquoise and silver, silk-brocade obi material. She gave it to me to have a gown made for my son's wedding in 2008. It was only 26" wide and just enough to make a floor length dress with short sleeves. Somehow Judy made it work and the dress was stunning. I didn't know at the time that she was a dress maker for royalty and felt very honored and privileged to have a gown designed by her. I will always cherish that gown, not just because I wore it at my son's wedding, but also because of my wonderful experience with her while she was designing, fitting and finishing off the gown so beautifully. I knew her from Church, and knew she was a seamstress, but I really got to know her while she was making my dress. I am so glad I got to know her and will really miss her. She was still gracious and beautiful while she was going through her illness. She will always be a big inspiration for me. May God bless her and save a special place in heaven. I envision her designing angel gowns and wings.

Susan and I have lost a best friend, a neighbor, and someone who just can't be replaced. J.B., Cindy and Connie gave her the very best love and care a person could ever hope to receive, and we are grateful. Judy is and will be missed by us daily. Our comfort is knowing she is with God and will be happy forever. We will always love Ms. Pretty. It is easy to love perfection.
