Julian Bess Obituary

Julian "Duke" Bess

Suffolk - Julian Royce Bess "Duke" passed away Friday June 26th at his home in Suffolk, Va. He was 75 years old. He is predeceased by his father Ralph Clifton Bess, mother Jennie Donavan Bess and wife Mary R. Bess. He was the brother to Bernice, Pearl, Judy and Raymond .He leaves behind two sons: oldest son Phillip R. Bess, his wife Cindy R. Bess and sons Bryan P. Bess and Taylor R. Bess; and youngest son Christopher J. Bess, his wife Lori E. Bess, daughter Erin N. Bess and son Shane C. Bess.

He was a retired marine electrician who had once proudly served as a member of the United States Air Force. He was also a member of First Baptist Church in Suffolk. Our Dad was a devoted husband to our Mom and loving father who taught us how to be loving fathers to our own children. That is the greatest gift he could have given us. Dad has shed his worn and broken body and is now in heaven with Christ. Finally free. He is truly loved and will be deeply missed. We love you Dad.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday June 30, 2015 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Suffolk with a visitation at the church one hour prior and Rev. Thurman Hayes officiating. In lieu of flowers please make charitable contribution to the American Diabetes Association 870 Greenbrier Circle Greenbrier Tower II, Suite 404 Chesapeake, VA 23320. R.W.
