Not sure what to say?

Living overseas for the last 40 years, I´ve only (sadly) read this news a year late of his (and Joan´s) passing. Dr. Jacobson was my doctor at Mt. Sinai back in 1979 and following visits over the years. My mom shared her rum ball recipe with Joan and we´d stayed in touch for decades - last time in touch maybe 10 years ago, and I´ve tried to find the classical music selection he made. What a wonderful life he had and I´m so grateful to have know them both. My condolences to his family.

Jack was a dear colleague, generous with his time and advice, always teaching his colleagues and brilliant in his care of patients! He was the father of microsurgery... work which was truly deserving of a Nobel Prize! He enjoyed sharing his ever-innovating ideas. I had so many wonderful moments with Jack...wonderful memories! Jerry Zacks MD

At the fifthieth anniversaryof the Society of Vascular Surgery I sponsered a dinner at Navy Pier in Chicago. Knowing the Dr. Jacobson would be there, I had cigars for the crowd. I purchased Griffiths churchhills. Dr. Jacobson complimented me on my choice of cigar to top off a great evening. Julius loved the cigar and it topped off a lovely evening.

Dear JHJ Friends and Colleagues, My dad would glow if he could see these messages. My family joins me in thanking each of you for posting your kind words and remembrances. In shared sadness, Wendy

I loved Joan and Jack Jacobson. Before my retirement from the American College of Surgeons, I managed the Jacobson Innovation Award program and enjoyed working with them on the selection of the recipient and the formal award dinner. Their generosity, philanthropy, and ongoing interest in the next generation of innovators truly defined the concept of paying it forward. I feel honored and privileged to have known them. Giants come along very rarely, and Jack Jacobson rises to the top of...

I loved Joan and Jack Jacobson. Before retirement from the American College of Surgeons, I managed the Jacobson Innovation Award program and enjoyed working with them on the recipient selection and subsequent award dinner. Over the years and after trips to New York, I was blessed and privileged to get to know them better. Never have I experienced such care, generosity, joy and commitment. It's not very often that giants come along, and the surgical world and countless patients are the...

I had the good task of ensuring the satisfaction of Dr&Mrs Jacobson with the conduct of their philanthropy at the American College of Surgeons . Dr. Jacobson was always more concerned about the recipients´ achievement and scientific impact of the Jacobson Awards than personal exaltation. Knowing Dr&Mrs Jacobson was a professional and personal joy. They were distinctively memorable philanthropists.

Dr. Jacobson helped so many, including the patients whom I referred. When my aunt was diagnosed with blood clots in the leg, her first vascular surgery consultant recommended leg amputation. Dr. Jacobson graciously took on her case. A true gentleman, he said, "it would be an honor to treat your aunt." He saved her leg and repaired her aortic aneurysm. I am grateful as we grieve his loss.

Dr. Jacobson operated on my mother many years ago. He was the third vascular surgeon she had seen, and was so incredibly impressive that there was no question as to who would do the surgery. The operation was successful, and he prolonged my mother's life. I will be forever grateful for the care he gave her, as well as his great kindness to her and to me. He was a gift to the medical profession, and a blessing to his patients. My deepest sympathy to his family.
