I am sorry to learn of Kathleen's passing and would like to extend my condolences to Kathleen's family and friends. I learned of Kathleen's passing today while googling a similar name and seeing the reference to the obituary.

I recall thinking I saw Kathleen with her parents at Friendly's in Sayville maybe a year or so ago, but I wasn't sure so I didn't say anything. I am now fairly certain that it was Kathleen and regret not stopping to say hello. I met Kathleen while commuting to NYC in the early 1990s from Sayville with some other Sayville grads/folks (John Reilly, Kathy Perry, Steven Russell, Jerry Blaski)...some of us were newbies to the morning commute. We shared many laughs and interesting conversations, and looked forward to the train ride together.

While we all lost touch many years ago as our lives and careers took different paths, I just want to say that Kathleen was a wonderful person and one of the nicest people I have ever met. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

My husband introduced me to his cousin George and his wife Kate. Upon meeting her I felt like I had known her for sometime. I only met her once (which I regret not staying connected) They lived in Falmouth in a small but beautiful cottage. She was such a generous person! We left with quite a few of George's six~packs from the famous Shipyard Brewery he had worked at....! We had an awesome visit and knowing she led a courageous battle...she impacted many lives to "just keep going". and George being such a loving devoted husband completed the love! Thank you for modeling what marriage is!

I'm very saddened to hear the news about Kathleen. I first met Kathleen while working at Barrett Beach. I had never met anyone like Kathleen and I know I never will again. She always had a smile on and made the most out of any situation (even with the most unglamorous of tasks, which there were many) I have such fond memories of those days and we had many, many, many laughs. My deepest sympathies to her family and friends.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. O'Connell and family,

Our deepest sympathies go out to you all during your painful loss of Kathleen. No parent should have to endure the loss of a child so early in life. Kathleen will always be thought of in the same loving way that she thought of everyone one of us, with unconditional, limitless love, kindness, and compassion.

Kate will truely be missed by all of us as we considered her a part of our family too! Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Sincerely,
Tammy, Steve and family

Dear George,
Steve and I were so deeply saddened and shocked that Monday morning when you called to say that Kate had passed! We never lost the faith and belief until that morning that Kate could and would be able to pull off another miracle as she had done so many times before. She was and will always be in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers everyday. She was such a beautiful person inside and out and will be greatly missed. Your devotion, love, and caring for her over the past years was inspirational, and I know Kate couldn't have loved you more.

Kate was given to us by God as an earth angel to show and teach everyone who knew her the true meaning of grace, dignity, generosity, love, caring, compasion, friendship. For those of us who were fortunate to have known Kate, and had the priviledge of calling her our friend, or daughter, or sister, and wife are richer in our lives for the short time that we had with her. Earth angels are never here for a long time, but they give us a life time of loving memories in our hearts to cherish for the rest of our lives, and to learn from her gifts of true love forever.

We're here for you George during this most challenging and heart breaking time of your life.
Love Tammy and Steve

I have known Kathleen since we were roomates in college and our time together brought us much joy. There were many things about her that made her special.
It was her kindness, beauty, and strength that truly made her shine...And through this illness that always followed her,but never shadowed her life; there was this way in which she went about things that made you relook at yourself...
There was a sense of grace in all that she did...she led us through this battle in a quiet and dignified manner, guiding and reassuring us as she knew how difficult this would be. No matter the circumstance she always had a cheerful demeanor. She could be in a hospital bed but you would still always get a lively "Hello" from her. She had a fighting spirit and quiet strength..She never gave up.

Her love for George(and his love for her) was unsurpassed. From the moment they met at Surf's Up in Newport,R.I., and for the past twenty years, this has been an unbreakable team. Their devotion to each other and the happiness found in everyday things is enviable.

She was a special friend to many and a sister to me.

There was a beauty about Kathleen that radiated from within. Her sky blue eyes were always full of enthusiasm, interest and joy. They just seemed to sparkle...

All of these things have touched each of us. Even though her life was short, her spirit is long reaching. her impact on us and how we live our lives will continue. And, one day, we will see that sparkle in our children's eyes and it will be that little touch of Kathleen that has blessed all of us.

Kate lived across the street from us on Greenway Drive in Falmouth for a few years. My girls Grace and Molly were quite small then but they remember her fondly - particularly because she gave them some shoes! We were sad to see George and Kate leave the neighborhood, but happy for them to have their new house. We were glad to have known her even so briefly.

My memory of Kathleen takes me back to 1986. We were young high school girls at ASJ together. Kathleen always had a knack for adding just the right preppy accessory to make even our plaid uniforms look cool. She always had a smile on her face and a genuine sparkle in her eyes. I feel blessed to have known her and I know she will make the heavens shine just as she did here on earth.

Oh -- if only this world had more Kate Denneys. I share Samantha's desription of Kate as one of quiet strength. Through out our years together at Cole Haan, I always admired Kate. She was very good at her job; but she was more than just her job. She was always strong, always positive, always smiling, always a friend, always bending over backward to help others. Even if there had been no cancer, she would be listed as one that I aspire to be more like. But the way that she quietly fought so hard and so long to beat the cancer was more than inspirational.

Today I want to think of Kate as God's newest precious angel, who is now saying, "finally I have found comfort and peace".

Now we as friends wrap our arms around George and each person within the O'Connell / Denney family, quietly letting you know that we care and share some of your sadness.

May God comfort all broken hearts.

Kath, As I read the entries by others they all speak of what we all knew all along. You are an angel and always have been here on Earth. You are someone I aspire to be - always kind, gentle and strong. I remember you as a gentle, classy woman but also as a mischievous, silly grade schooler - the perfect combination. You lit up a room the moment you arrived with your warm smile and made this world a better place. I am truly honored to have called you my friend. The memories of SLS, the Shoreham, and ASJ are forever in my heart. You will live on in all our hearts and minds. Love you Kath! xx Brig
