My dearest "little peanut" Valerie,
I am so sad to hear about what happened. Your mom is a great lady. She loves you so much. I am so glad to be a part of your life for the time I was your nanny and now your friend. I consider you one of my own. Even though I now live far away, I think of you often. Please hug your grandpa for me. I love you, peanut. And yes, you will always be my peanut!

I was terribly saddened to learn of Kate's untimely death and I extend sincere sympathies to Valerie, to other members of Kate's family and to her friends.

I was a student of Professor Heidt this past spring semester. Although I only knew her for a few months, she made a tremendous impact on my life.
