DUGAN, Kerry Passed peacefully on Tuesday morning, pain-free and surrounded by family. An arduous struggle with Lewy Body Dementia slowly stole one of the most beautifully gifted minds one might have the pleasure to encounter. As a veteran, father, grandfather, husband, brother, and professor, he...

Not sure what to say?

Professor Dugan was there for me at a very confusing time in my life. I took his existentialism course, and we read Being and Time by Heidegger. It's a complicated book, but he found a way for us to question things and learn as a group. To be honest, he did more to help me understand the meaning of this life we have than anyone else. I wish I had kept up with him more over the years, but I'm very glad I had that semester with him. I remember a day when I had a lot of questions about what we...

Hi Ruth, I just came upon this. I'm so sorry to hear about Kerry. My heart goes out to you, Sarah, and Joe. Take good care. Debbi

I met Kerry when we were philosophy graduate students at Tulane University in New Orleans. He lived next door to me and my family, and very soon he was a frequent guest in our home, where we have many fine conversations. Kerry's mind was interested in just about everything, and his heart was open to everyone. Kerry was one of the few graduate students I knew who managed to find a teaching position, allowing him to work with students whom he respected and cared about. I am not...

Kerry actually changed my life. The way he taught, and thought Will resonate with me forever. I´m now a professional poker player and Golf professional, purely because of how he taught me to "question everything". It made me the person I am today. I will always remember him walking across campus with his coffee, coming in to class and going "any questions?" And the class lit up from there. Sometimes I needed advice on things and his office door would be cracked open with his desk light on,...

A phenomenal teacher. One of his great skills was listening to students in a way they had never experienced before. He was able to hear a deeper meaning in my words than I knew was there. I developed a completely new thought process under his tutelage that brought spirituality to my life in a way no religion ever had. I am forever grateful to have encountered professor Dugan. My deepest condolences to the family.

Aside from my parents, no single human on earth has had as much influence on me than Kerry. He literally changed my life in the most fundamental way possible, and gave me the gift of limitless thought and exploration of life. I truly consider him to be one of the great masters, little did the world know. But, those of us whose lives were changed by him will never forget. RIP, Dugan.

Dear Ruth, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I have good memories of working with Kerry in University College, of his love of teaching, his easygoing nature, and yes, his terrible jokes. My heart goes out to you and your children. With deepest sympathies, Nancy

Rest in peace to Professor Dugan. I had him for existentialism/Heidegger while an undergraduate at Northeastern in 2011. He was such a different stock of philosophy teacher in all the best ways. I remember he had a bunch of us over to his house one day. He also encouraged my interests in religion even though I was in a primarily analytic philosophy department at NEU. Thank you for those transformational 4 months, Kerry. You've changed many lives thanks to you being you. -Colin Pugh

On a whim, I took Professor Dugan's Business Ethics course at Northeastern during my freshman year in 2000-01. Our class discussions and Dugan's introduction of philosophical texts honestly changed how I approached education and life in many ways. To this day, I still think about questions that he posed and insights that he scribbled on my term paper. To his family, I send my deepest condolences. Mr. Dugan was a great man.
