Kevin Metzer Obituary
Kevin Charles Metzer, 19, of Roswell, Ga., died on December 24, 2009 after winning his battle with Leukemia for the past 16 months.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Pattersons Funeral Chapel, Old Canton Road in Marietta, Ga.
Funeral services are set for 12 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church in Marietta. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery in Sandy Springs.
Kevin was born in Marrietta, Ga. He graduated from Lassiter High School in 2008 where he was a member of the Varsity Football program. He gained recognition for his weightlifting, garnishing the Iron Man award his senior year. He also wrestled at Lassiter winning two Regional Tournaments. He received leadership awards in sports as well as other honors.
Kevin will be remembered for his big smile and his ability to never meet a stranger.
Kevin was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Ernest Metzer, of Bryan and Charles Perkins, of Marietta, Ga.
Survivors include his parents, Rodney and Kathy Metzer, brother and sister-in-law, Rod and Morgan Metzer, all of Roswell, Ga.; sister, Monica Todd, of Killeen; grandmothers, Janie Metzer, of Bryan and Frances Perkins, of Marietta, Ga.; aunts and uncle, Sharon and John Bowling, Cathy Butler, Russell and Helen Metzer, all of Bryan, Texas, Tim and Kathy Metzer, of N.C. and Linda Perkins, of Marietta, Ga. He had many loving cousins, Susan and Craig, Steven and Shannon, Christopher and Christy, Andrea, Brent, Cindy and Zane, Michael and Laurie, Timmy, Courtney, and other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in honor of Kevin Metzer, Lassiter Wrestling Booster Club, c/o Lassiter High School, 2601 Shallowford Road, Marietta, GA 30066.

Rod and Kathy: I never had the privilege of knowing and loving Kevin as you have, but from the stories you've told me that is most definitely my own loss. He was such a force and a ray of light for you. I'm honored you've shared your stories with me and I hope to hear many more. I hope I can be as wonderful of a neighbor to you as you've been to me. What a shock to see that you and your wife lost your son. What a handsome young man, with so many of the Metzer features in his face. Please know my deepest sympathies are with you and the entire family. The lose of a child must be so great, and to lose anyone young affects all who knew him. Rodney, Kathy, and Rod- It is so neat to hear all of the things Kevin's friends have to say about him. It sounds like he was such a neat young man. Although his life was cut short, he made a HUGE impact on so many people. They say it is not in the amount rather the impact. Know that he will always be with you. Always talk about him, remember him, and cherish the memories that you have...the smile that everyone remembers will now depend on you! He will be missed dearly and it will be painful, but know he is in no pain.
